Summary

Though not entirely devoid of emotion, Eve's personality could be described as mostly stoic and contemplative. She takes her goals very seriously and carefully calculates every step towards fulfilling them with utmost precision. Her fixation on maximizing her versatility has lead her all across the wasteland and into several different jobs to garnger as much experience as possible just to hone herself. At first, it was for the simple sake of survival, or perhaps a lack of an alternative purpose for herself, unable to escape the conditioning embedded within her to strive for deadly efficiency and nothing more. But once she discovered the true purpose of the Sundown Directive and what she, her sisters, and potentially hundreds of other clones just like her were created for, she had finally found something to pour her life's work into.

Her past experiences as a mercenary, bodyguard, and private investigator have netted her a valuable network of connections around the wasteland, access to information on numerous off-world topics, and extensive skill in close-quarters combat and handling a variety of firearm types. Though accustomed to a more solitary life, she can let a bit of a more playful, sarcastic side of herself slip out while among trusted company.

Backstory

Eve is a clone from a group of 6 (and just 1 group among many others) created to become agents of the Sundown Directive. During their childhood at the ages of 7, Eve and her 5 sisters were presented with an opportunity during a training exercise to escape their facility when it was breached and attacked by a large group of raiders, who uncharacteristically attempted a coordinated siege on the hidden building for unknown reasons. Eve and her group were successfully able to escape the confines of the facility into the wasteland without being seen amid the chaos. The facility sustained only minor damages and no losses other than the escape of Eve and her group.

During her childhood life within her facility, Eve (or "One" before she adopted the name Eve) had a particular lack of personality, which more or less was ideal for young developing agents. She only sought to effectively carry out her tasks given to her and improve herself during her training with no interest in comparing her performance with the others. Yet despite her stoic and solitary nature, she would show excellent cooperation when the time called for it as well. Even when her typically assigned field partner Liberty ("Six" at the time) often underperformed in exercises, Eve compensated and never held it against her.

Prior to her escape from the facility, Eve didn't think much about life out in the wasteland. Even when Aries (Two at the time) would gush about rumors she heard of happenings out in the wild to her sisters, it never once piqued Eve's interest. It wasn't that she was against the wonder of it all, it was just that her focus remained elsewhere, primarily on her goals as she was always reminded by her superiors. Eve's consistently exceptional performance and lack of any deviating personality quirks that could blossom into potential future liabilities were exemplary traits that those same superiors of hers sought in their budding agents. Yet despite her being on track of fulfilling her purpose so exceedingly well and seemingly having no reservations about the life she was lead to live, she chose to assist her sisters in their agreed upon escape when the opportunity presented itself to them. It was a bizarre snap decision that seemed to make no sense to her, yet somehow felt so right to do. Once on the outside, Eve's sisters thanked her for her helping instead of trying to stop them like they had anticipated, and all parted in separate ways into the wilds of the wasteland. Eve was then left with a choice: return to the facility to resume her methodical life and become what she was created to be, or throw it all away and advance into the unknown where anything could happen. This time, it wasn't a snap decision, and she then realized that her previous one hadn't been either. It wasn't some strange hiccup in her reasoning that drove her to help her sisters escape; it was the thrill of something new that called to her subconsciously, and it now called to her once again much louder than before. Eve took one last glance at the facility behind her, the only "home" and entire world that she had ever known, before turning around and heading South into whatever lie ahead.

As she grew up alone in the harshness of the open world, Eve took every hardship that confronted her as an opportunity to better herself, which was simply all she knew to do. She would spend the next 3 years wandering and exploring some of the most remote places out in the wasteland, always warily keeping her distance from any forms of society that she came across. Her first goal was to familiarize herself with all the different kinds of natural hazards encountered out in the wasteland, along with its surprisingly diverse fauna (she became especially fascinated with birds). Her survival skills and tactical approach to hunting allowed her to easily survive without the need to steal or barter. But even in her content for a solitary life, she eventually next felt it necessary to build experience on interacting and dealing with the people of the wasteland as well.

She began by visiting smaller settlements and towns, making it a habit to stop by storefronts and traders to learn what things people valued over others. This lead to her drive in seeking odd jobs to do for folks around these kinds of towns; typically simple jobs from manual labor to commissions for hunting elusive or dangerous animals. In only a year, by the time she was 11 (around 17~19 biologically), she had visited countless towns and learned a great deal about what goes on in and around them. Now, she craved another new outlet to better herself through, which she pursued by joining a mercenary-for-hire group known as "The Gray Aces", composed mostly of unruly thugs and maniacal head-hunters. Though dissuaded by her youth at first, the group took her in with the intent of using her as expendable frontline fodder for as long as she'd last. It took only the first job they accepted with her among their ranks to realize that this quiet, young girl was a swift and deadly force to be reckoned with. Most of them came to appreciate her inclusion in the Gray Aces after that, and only then officially recognized her as one of them. Each member had their own nickname following an animal theme such as "Coyote", "Viper", and "Rhino". When prompted to choose her own, Eve chose to be called "Canary", one of her favorite birds. Despite her acceptance into the Gray Aces, she didn't care for the way most of them got things done, and even less for the thrill they derived from killing for fun and not out of necessity. To her, this was just an opportunity to learn her way around firearms and further hone her versatility in tactical combat.

Eve only remained with the Gray Aces for about 2 years before she felt she'd had enough. Though she had gained a substantial amount of gun and combat expertise, as well as a good gauging of what threat levels to expect from different notorious groups and people around the wasteland, she also came to resent her team's lack of care over the collateral damage they often caused while on jobs. Eventually, she just silently split off from the Gray Aces and never looked back, dropping the name "Canary" that she had hardly become accustomed to, and adopted the new name "Eve"; a short and simple name, which was all it needed to be for her. Unsatisfied with her expertise specifically in unarmed combat now, she ventured towards the more "developed" and prominent larger cities around the wasteland, seeking offers as a bodyguard. She would go back and forth between jobs for another year or so just like in her earlier childhood, from bar bouncer to store protection from gang shake-downs. By 14 (23~25 biologically), she'd eventually land a more permanent role in the city as a bodyguard for a private investigator looking for protection during his fieldwork. Eve came to form a close trust and companionship with the earnest investigator, as he offered her much more than an opportunity to sharpen her CQC. He treated her like a partner during the cases he took on, recognizing her sharp wit and critical thinking as equally valuable assets as her impressive physical capability. He would even come to share with her his wealth of experiences in the city over decades of working as a private eye, after having come to Earth from off-planet nearly 30 years ago with an ambition to help curb crime in societies struggling to build themselves back up. Through working with the investigator, Eve developed a new sense of fulfillment in tackling and solving more intricate problems, and genuinely relished the time she spent on cases with him.

2 years pass, and an unusual case makes its way to their office one day; a case that has oddly popped up several times before. Supplier routes to and from the city brutally attacked far out in the wasteland by an unknown group, killing the caravan runners and their guards, while destroying the entirety of their stock in tow. This kind of behavior didn't add up with raiders or bandits, as they would have prioritized seizing their goods above all else. Slavers were out of the question, as all personnel present on the caravan were accounted for and dead, with no chance for any deaths to have been an accident. The only other potential culprit that came to mind were internal city gangs looking to send a violent message to a particular business or group of people in the city, but not even the most prominent gangs around should have been well-equipped enough to take on an entire caravan with such a generous amount of hired guns and get away without losing even a single man. This same case had perplexed the two of them before, but this time they had something that hadn't been available before: an eyewitness. The witness claimed they saw the assault unfold through binoculars from a great distance when the faint sound of repeated gunfire caught their attention. The witness's distance at the time made it difficult to make out any notable details in the attackers' appearance, but they did their best to give their report of what they saw.

"I didn't see where they come from, I only caught a glimpse 'a when the firefight was already poppin' off. 3 sorta tall, real speedy ones and 2 freakishly tall, real burly ones. All had bright red-lookin' hair, sorta like yours, miss... or maybe they could'a been matchin' hats? Those 5 went up against at least 15 mercs armed to the teeth, and picked em all off bit by bit with their bare hands without missin' a step!"

Eve put the facts together and told the investigator in private that the composition of this group and their features were reminiscent of the groups that she and others like her were raised and trained to form, though she admittedly never knew or questioned what the ultimate purpose of it all was, as she escaped that life when she was very young. This information baffled the investigator, amazed that something like this had even been going on out in the wasteland, let alone that his trusted partner had once been a part of it. But when Eve dropped the name "Sundown Directive", which she had heard her superiors casually use before in passing during her time in her facility, the investigator's bewildered expression twisted into one of dread, as if he had just heard proof that his worst fears had come true. The Sundown Directive was indeed a name he was familiar with, one passed around among his peers during his time as an off-planet investigator, and one of several leads they had miraculously dug up while looking into numerous companies affiliated with the AIWH under suspicion of criminal dealings. He turned the tables on Eve, explaining that the Sundown Directive supposedly had some relation to the current sovereignty of humanity on Earth, and the repeated interest expressed by numerous companies in cracking the planet. Their shared revelations lead them both to the same conclusion that would change their lives from that moment on; The Sundown Directive's purpose had something to do with putting the entire planet and everyone on it in grave danger.

Eve now had a clear goal in mind: No matter how, she needed to stop the Sundown Directive. But realizing now just who she'd be up against, being other seemingly super-human agents like herself, she certainly couldn't tackle this alone like with every other hardship she'd faced in her life. She now had an ally in the investigator, but the scale of what needed to be done called for far more helping hands. Finally, Eve arrived at her first objective in this endeavor, which was to find and track down her sisters, if any of them were still indeed alive. The investigator agreed to offer whatever kind of assistance he possibly could from the city, and supplied her with a communication device to keep in touch while she combed the wasteland in search of clues as to where her sisters might be.

Trivia

• Through her network of connections and time spent as a mercenary for the Gray Aces, Eve has built up quite an impressive arsenal, most of which she elects to keep stashed in a number of hidden safe houses that she's secured around the wasteland. The heavy-duty ensemble that she's sporting in her profile image is for occasions of potentially going up against other agents of Sundown Directive. Two Colt 1911 pistols holstered on her left, a bare-bones MP5 submachine gun strapped to her right, a cargo vest stocked with extra clips, and a belt toting a couple of hand grenades. On her back are a modified Barrett 50 cal rifle and an RPG-7, both of which are emergency measures against an enforcer if escape isn't an option. She's only ever had to use them in very few situations, one of which being a skirmish with Five, where Eve was forced to use the RPG-7 against her to stop her relentless pursuit when all else failed. Five took the RPG blast directly to her right shoulder, allowing Eve to escape with her life as intended, but the blast only temporarily incapacitated her, making Five the first to survive its use against her as she walked away from the fight with only heavy scarring to her upper body and an incinerated right eye.
