Profile

Update in progress! Old bio in the spoiler, but it no longer reflects her accurately.

The daughter of a war hero, but it turns out that comes with some serious baggage. She started a band with Theo and Indigo to get off of their home planet, and it worked. For a while.

After a venue fire forces the gang back home for treatment, Sorrel discovers a plain gold ring that once belonged to her mother. This ring is the Halo, a strange object with extradimensional origins that was the source of her mother's power... and the strange mental affliction that lead to her death. Sorrel wants nothing to do with it, but no matter what she does, it ends up back in her hand.

Then, she starts having strange dreams: a flaming wolf following her, chanting a demand for her to look at it. She is transported to a cell in a body that isn't her own, tormented by soldiers wearing the faces of people she knows. She figures she can handle them, but that's before the dreams start leaking into reality.

Turns out the extradimensional entity responsible for the Halo has split the world into two timelines. In the main timeline (peace timeline), Sorrel has been living a relatively normal life in the wake of her mother's revolution. In the war timeline, she is fighting the revolution herself... or at least she was, until she was captured by the enemy. The two versions of herself are linked by the Halo, and have started mentally swapping places with each other.

Motifs of flames, music, and wolves. (RIP plant theming, you will be sorely missed)

Positives
Sorrel is a force of personality.  At her best, she is confident and free-spirited, eager to see new things and shake up the status quo.  It takes a lot of work to gain her trust, but she is intensely loyal to those who have, and won't blink at danger or criminal activity if it means helping them out.  She isn't incredibly responsible by nature, but in a pinch she can really buckle down to get things done.

Neutrals
To put it bluntly, Sorrel has a problem with authority.  If it's easier to skirt the rules, she will, and doesn't see this mindset as a particularly bad thing.  She's also quite proud- she doesn't take kindly to people who don't respect her, even (or perhaps especially) if they hold some sort of power or status over her.  This particular combination of traits has caused her a lot of trouble in the past, as she finds it hard to back down.  However, those traits are also great for starting a rebellion...

Negatives
Sorrel puts a lot of effort into presenting a cool demeanor, but she actually has a pretty short temper and can get incredibly frustrated when things don't go her way.  She is a bit short-sighted, and can be incredibly selfish when it comes to people she doesn't know well.  She isn't great at processing or working through negative emotions- her usual tactic is to distract herself or dissociate until it's too much, at which point she'll usually lash out against those around her.

Likes/Dislikes
+thrill-seeking, music, freedom, plants, sweet food
-being talked down to, cold weather, most alcohol, enclosed spaces (lategame trauma)

Powers
Sorrel is an artificer, which means she wields a magical artifact that has specific powers and drawbacks.  Hers is Sun's Bounty, which usually takes the form of a golden ring engraved with a stylized vine.  Its power is to grow a magical flowering vine that roots itself on her arm, which can synthesize nearly any organic molecule as well as perform photosynthesis at an incredible rate (very useful for breathing, among other things).  Synthesized compounds can either be pumped into her bloodstream via the plant's roots or deposited in an acorn sized seed.  It mostly works on an instinctual level since Sorrel didn't pay attention in chemistry- she needs an explosive, so she gets an explosive.  It produces adrenaline by default.

The vine itself can also be used to grab things, but it isn't incredibly strong and is literally rooted in Sorrel's body.  It also can grow thorns or woodier stems if necessary, but Sorrel doesn't use these features much.  The roots don't hurt when they puncture the skin, as they produce a mild anesthetic when they do so, but the wounds don't immediately heal themselves when the vine is retracted.

There are drawbacks to using Sun's Bounty.  Short-term, it causes a huge crash after using, both from adrenaline letdown and the plant leaning on its host's energy reserves. As mentioned before, wounds where the roots took hold heal at the same rate as any other injury, and tend to scar if untreated.  Long-term, constant intrusion of the root system may start to damage the nerves in the arm, leading to reduced feeling and motor control.  Repeated exposure to high amounts of adrenaline can also be dangerous for mental and physical health, and can even lead to PTSD if severe enough.
