General story aka details generally applicable to any setting/story/universe he is in

i, run boy runMur grows up in foster care. He is mainly non-verbal and stutters when he does talk, is taught BSL and thrives better in quiet, smaller towns, rather than big cities. However, he also has a tendency to run away; a fear of coming home, rather, rooted in a very early and repressed memory/trauma from earlier in his life. Eventually he runs away for good, and a series of events strikes even more paranoia in him about returning "home" and believing any kind of authority, and be starts using heroin to cope. Quickly on his way to an early death, he gets picked up by a man calling himself Jones, who decides to take care of him. Jones lives in an RV and together they drive all over the country and more, until Jones disappears a few years later.

ii, from edenMur goes looking for Jones, but is horribly unprepared and starts to unravel once more, when he meets Sam, another young runaway. They team up and spend a while together that can best be described as a long roadtrip full of misdeeds, petty crimes, sex and a whole lot of "us against the world" attitude. Once the thrill of their adventure fizzles out they make a sort of pact to confront whatever problem led them to meeting in the way they did, and part ways.

iii, hard drugs fake loveOnce again, Mur is alone and feels more lost than ever. His part of the pact includes going back to where he last saw Jones and wait for him or start his search over - but he is far away and quickly runs into trouble while trying to fund both his journey back and his drug habits. He starts spiraling into his old habits, but worse. He hits a major low, being badly taken advantage of, but finds that he has also made friends to support him.

iv, longshotHis friends, Eight and Sandra, as well as his eventually boyfriend Rory, are all in various stages of feeling lost and in too deep, but they keep each other from falling too far and step by step gets on top of things. For Mur this means the beginning of a long, slow and painful recovery - but a recovery nonetheless.
Jones finds him eventually. Mur and Sam reconnects. He has a happy ending.

Mur works with a team of smugglers, and when a mission goes south, and Vaughn tries to get rid of him in the mess, he makes a deal with the sea, saving him from dying. To do his end of the deal, and keep himself alive, he must repay the sea "in person," and so begins a three week journey, accompanied by his three friends and with Vaughn at their heels.
