Personality

A weird girl who enrolled into the Uva Academy out of nowhere. No ones knows about her family, past or where she comes from, but she's a very friendly person, open to meet new people and make new experiences ---despite her pretty bad social skills.
Curious and excitable, she's always busy doing something, but her favorite thing is trying out all the different and delicious food Paldea has to offer!
(will set up this nicely later)

History

According to her tales, Lumi comes from another timeline, a future where the people of Ultra Megalopolis never contacted the Alolan heroes to help them with Necrozma, and instead had their first intruductions with humans in the far future ---one where most Pokémon went extinct, and now the mostly post-apocalyptic lands are plagued by rogue, aggressive synthetic Pokémon.
Traveling with her family to Earth looking for a mutually beneficial collaboration with humans (help with Necrozma in exchange for help with the synthetic Pokémon, and a bio-repopulation program thanks to the genes of Ultra Beasts), she came across one of the portals opened by Professor Turo's time travel machine, and recklessly entered it with her partner Poipole.

Lumi found herself in the depths of Area Zero, but there was no time to marvel at the strange beauty of the place: as she explored, she came across a commotion, a violent Pokémon fight, and upon seeing one of the injured fighters preparing to fly away, she hopped onto its back, thinking it may be her only way to get out of that mysterious crater.
The injured Pokémon was of course Miraidon, and the two crashed on the beach, only to be found by Nemona, who after her initial help suggested Lumi to enroll into the Uva Academy, so that the two girls could become friends and rivals ---Poipole's sight alone was enough to send Nemona in wild excitment at the idea of being able to fight against such a foreign Pokémon!

While on their way to the Academy, Lumi and Nemona came across Arven, with their first interaction with him and Miraidon going over very similarly to canon, and during her enrollment application request director Clavel was weirdly fascinated and not really put off by Lumi's absurd origin story ---muttering to himself if "he" really did it, then...?
It seems that the temporal jump to this timeline has caused some memory issues to Lumi, as she can't recall details about her life or family, but just vague memories and facts about how living in the future is. However, this doesn't dampen her mood, and if anything makes her even more curious and excited about learning and experience all she can in this world so different from hers! She's always eager to help too, especially if it means going on an adventure, so Lumi easily got roped up in Nemona's, Penny's and Arven's requests ---giving however priority to Arven, especially after learning that his motives lie behind his Mabostiff's health conditions, and causing the two to become fast friends, almost like siblings; they will end up considering each other their found family.

When the time will come, Lumi will find herself going back to Area Zero, this time surrounded by friends, and will have to face a decision: protecting the time travel machine, keeping the connection between Paldea and her world intact....or destroying it forever, and with it her chances to go back home?

SPOILER: God of Desires Theory

Lumi's story relies heavily on Pokémon Violet's time travel plot, taken at face value without nothing too deep to it, but...what if, with the upcoming DLC, the plot will be revealed to be much different? Afterall, there are still inconsistencies that can't be justified with the professor's time travel machine (how come paradox Pokémon had already been seen in the past, then?), which brings the popular theory of the upcoming third legendary's power being the one of possibilities, a granter of desires: according to this theory, the professor's desire was to see paradox Pokémon, a wish that has been granted in the form of the "time travel" machine.

Following this theory, actual time travel, and therefore Lumi's whole origins, may be impossible; but, she entered Area Zero right as Miraidon got injured, meaning it was right when the fight between the two Miraidon specimens caused the professor's death...so what if Professor Turo's thoughts, realizing these were his last moments of life, went to his son? What if his despair of leaving him definitively alone generated a desire that he wouldn't be?

And this is were Lumi comes to play.

Turo's desire for his son to not be alone brought to Paldea someone who could help him and Mabostiff, help him uncover the truth about Area Zero and how to cope with the ultimate loss, someone who could become his found family.

And if during possible DLC events Lumi will come to know of this, a question will keep nagging her: did the professor's desire simply open a real dimensional passage, so that she could leave her world and come to this?
...or is she not a real person, created just by the professor's wish alone, and this is why her memories are so fuzzy?

Does Viridilumina really exist?

Trivia

  • Her name comes from the roridomyces viridiluminus, a type of bioluminiscent mushroom, and means "green light" in latin!
  • She says that in her world organic food isn't really available due to lack of sunlight caused by Necrozma, which is why she adores Paldean food
  • Since Poipole isn't legally usable in Paldea, when enrolling at the Academy they made her pick a starter: her pick is Fuecoco!
  • Wishes to get a Cosmog someday, not only because it could help against Necrozma, but mostly because of the aesthetic lol
  • She doesn't have a favourite Pokémon type, but she does favour those with either a space-y or food theme!
  • Her favourite lessons are Home Economics and Art; in her world art is seen as superfluous and a waste of resources, so she's in awe by it!
  • When she first came to Paldea her memories were even fuzzier than they are now, and she couldn't quite remember her name; since everyone greeted her with "Hola!" she thought maybe that was her name, and used Hola as her alias for a while; when called out on it, and remembering her real name (but thinking it was too weird for Paldeans), she decided to go by simply "Lumi"
