Javier

Javier comes off to most as aloof and withdrawn, choosing to hide in the shadows and glare at anyone he comes across, with few words to share with anyone that does dare to approach him. It doesn't mean he dislikes people, however, it's just that at the root of it, he's not very skilled at social interaction, and struggles with what to say.

Dedicated and driven, he executes his work and tasks efficiently and cleanly....and yes, that does mean his assassination work. As a calm individual, he is capable of making level-headed decisions, even in times distress, and able to assess the situation without panic.

At his core, however, is an individual that fears rejection, and is constantly riddled with insecurities when others interact with him, or express comraderie. He is distrustful of people, believing that everyone will betray him at some point, and tends to look at the negative side of every equation. The truth is that all he craves for is attention, affection and friendship, despite his insecurities about himself.

Born as a result of a vengeful dying wish of the last ruling Emperor of Ritania by the militarian insurgents, Javier came into this world as a Smoketail, tainted since creation. His left eye was mutated from the start, perhaps as a result of the strength of the dying wish, but no one will ever know - it never affected his vision...just how others viewed him. With dark fumes rising out from him, Javier was cursed to bring misfortune to all who crossed his path, and struggled to make friends all through his young life.

It wasn't long before the townspeople began attacking him, despite him avoiding hostility at all cost, and he realised he had to learn self-defense, if only to protect himself from the hatred of others. He lurked while other boys learned sword skills, training himself by copying them, and perhaps as a cruel fate, it turns out that he was naturally talented at fighting, with both speed, focus and accuracy. In his early teens, he began offering himself as a simple mercenary to make ends meet and keep himself alive, though with time, he began taking assassination jobs, and jobs that involved killing everything that blocked his clients' path. Initially resistant towards it, with time came desensitisation, and the realisation that perhaps it was always his fate to end up in this career line, as a result of how he came to this world. It wasn't long until the Ritanian government heard word about a well-accomplished sellsword, and he was ironically offered a permanent and well-paying position as a part of the Special Operations at the Military, which involved executing mostly silent assassination and reconnaissanse missions.

In order to protect the balance of the places he loves, he uses his job as an excuse to travel frequently, in hopes that if he does not linger, he can't bring great misfortune to those places.

ADDITIONAL TRIVIA: At one point he was romantically involved with a human girl who reciprocated his love, but as a result of his curse, he caused her whole village to be slaughtered by invading troops, and the girl hated him and spited him for it. He still watches over her from far, but is unable to approach her anymore. Prays for her happiness...without him.

Curse of Misfortune - Javi always brings misfortune to those who encounter him, whether it be as trivial as slipping on a banana peel, to greater tragedies like sudden natural disasters. The curse can only be nullified when in the presence of someone blessed with the gift of fortune (in other words, steam smoketails work to nullify the effects of his curse).

Floating - As a smoketail, he is capable of floating using his smoke to lift him

Smoke Screen - Javi's smoke has heavy sedative qualities, and can be manipulated to put his targets to sleep, allowing for stealthier assassinations.

• Javi obsessively washes his hands after every mission, constantly riddled with the psychological feeling that he can't get rid of the smell of blood.
• Despite what his personality would suggest, Javi dislikes quiet/silence, preferring to surround himself with noisiness, often stealthily passing through bustling locations such as markets or center places. The quiet reminds him too much that he has no one.
• While he is actually mild-natured, the feelings of vengeance that he was born from overtake him when he works, allowing him to kill without mercy, despite how he himself always regrets it after.
• He's actually a crybaby, though he only cries silently, when no one is looking.
• He dislikes the concept of wasting food, and will eat everything served to him. Everything.
• Unexpectedly has a sweet tooth, though he rarely eats it because it's hard to uh, procure, when he's so depressing.
• He doesn't actually remember his birthday because he doesn't celebrate it. He just knows it was "somewhere at the beginning of winter". His actual birthdate was later dug by up by the Special Ops researchers however, but he still doesn't remember it.
