Profile

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:

Niyati stands short at 4'5", with a portly/chubby build. Her brown complexion is dusted with freckles, and her thick, dark hair falls down to her waist.
Her round face sports a small, downward pointing nose with a pronounced bridge, full lips, and large, dark, doe-like eyes.

 PERSONALITY:

An awkward introvert, she has a great amount of faith in people but is quickly exhausted by them. She often says inappropriate things at inappropriate times, which provides the outward impression of being a lot less intelligent than she really is.

In actuality, Niyati is brilliant with numbers, and is an extremely resourceful, adept problem solver.

Sporting an relentless force of will, Niyati will tirelessly go after something she wants, wearing down obstacles in her path like water erode a stone.

BACK STORY:

Niyati was born an only child to an upper-middle class merchant family. Her father had succumbed to heart complications early in her childhood, and so she was raised (and properly doted on) primarily by her mother and her aunts.

From an early age, Niyati had shown an aptitude for mathematics, and had already begun working as an accountant for the family business by her thirteenth birthday. However, she soon after proved that she was not fit for negotiating with clientele nor investors. She was poor at dealing with people, especially in a professional setting.

The Ada family had always worked closely with the Pillar of the People, Julian DuPont--of whom they owed many favors to. He called in all those favors at once, in the most peculiar manner, when he requested to inaugurate a family member into the position of Pillar of the Coin.

Specifically, He called upon the young Niyati.

At first, there was some debate. Niyati was only approaching nineteen years of age, and the youngest Pillar to be inaugurated before her had been the age of thirty-three. DuPont pointed to her brilliance with numbers, naming her a prodigy, and assured the Ada family that teaching her the nuances of managing the republic's monetary affairs would be simple, given the large network of experienced advisers she'd be working with.

An agreement was made, and some months after her nineteenth birthday, Niyati was inaugurated into becoming Pillar of the Coin.

ONGOING STORY:

She goes into Pillarhood with an abundance of great ideas, and no shortage of optimism over the notion that she can do exceptionally well by the republic. There's already a great number of points she wanted to address in regards to taxation laws and spending, and now she's entered into a position where she can really make a difference!

...Unfortunately, Pillarhood is not as she thought it would be.

Finding it impossible to assert herself, Niyati is constantly bowled over by her more experienced, confident advisers. Frequently, her decisions are left ignored, and her suggestions remain unheard.

To make matters worse, she is constantly chastised for her lack of initiative and foresight. As well, she continues to be saddled with the criticism when poor decisions are passed (often without her even knowing). Since day one, life as a Pillar proved to be far more overwhelming than she was prepared to deal with.

Worried about what all this might mean for her future in the Citadel, Niyati seeks out the guidance of an ornery soothsayer. Together, they learn that her hasty inauguration is just the tip of a messy, political iceberg.
