story

Adam isn't used to thinking for himself and making decisions on his own. He was told what to do for most of his life. This makes him a great employee to order around. He's usually very willing to do whatever work is handed to him and cooperates well in team projects. Other Agents usually associate him with his kindness and attempts at improving morale, such as baking cookies for everyone.

He cries a surprising lot. It's usually because he's sad, but not for himself. He pities who will never see the light of his god. Especially since as the First Apostle, he believes it is his job to purge heretics. That being said, he is a huge believer in forgiveness and second chances, so if a heretic agrees to repent and change their ways, he will support them whole-heartedly. However, there is no saving those who don't want to be saved. He'll wish those kinds of sinners had a change of heart before exacting justice on them.

Born in the Backstreets of N Corp's District, Adam was born into a closed off community that worshipped a benevolent entity known as the Absolute Light. It was led by the deity's messenger Jonathan, who arrived at the City in the form of a man. Jonathan deemed Adam the Child of Light whose mere presence will cleanse them of sin. The idea was to use Adam as a second mouthpiece and failsafe in case disaster struck the cult, a scapegoat to direct his cult's anger to. Meanwhile, the people loved Adam. They showered him in gifts and adoration, thinking that the son of their god should be respected as such. In turn, Adam grew up a wholesome, albeit spoiled child.

After 15 years of this, Jonathan had enough of this. His people listened to Jonathan, but it was Adam they fawned over. He was sick of having his attention stolen from him by a mere child. He created Adam's pedestal, and it was his right to destroy it. He gathered everyone to a meeting to proclaim that he had a message from the Absolute Light: in front of everyone, Adam and his family were to return to His realm by stabbing themselves through the chest. Adam's parents willingly obliged, convincing their son that it would be alright, for he was the son of god. But Adam, who had grown up sheltered from violence his entire life, was terrified beyond belief. He watched his parents kill themselves, and refused to do the same out of fear for his life.

This enraged Jonathan. He immediately turned to his followers with a look of shock and horror, telling them that Adam had betrayed his role as the Child of Light for refusing the Absolute Light's will. Adam had turned into a ticking time bomb, and if they did not take care of him immediately, all of the sin he had accumulated would explode out of him. The only way to save Adam and themselves was by casting a stone at the Child of Light until he perished.

As rocks tore his skin and shattered his bones, he prayed to his one true god that he would find his family in the afterlife. However, during the stoning, the Index barged in, killing every cultist in the room including Jonathan. A Prescript had ordered the Proselytes to eradicate everyone except for the victim being executed. As per the Prescript's orders, they freed Adam, gave him a K Corp healing ampule, and invited him to join the Index. Since he had no other means of taking care of himself, he complied.

Adam spent the next few years as an Index Proselyte, carrying out the will of the Prescripts. He convinced himself that the Prescripts were direct orders from the Absolute Light, meaning the Index was actually full of like-minded kin. When they tried to correct him, telling Adam that the Prescripts were Prescripts and not the will of a god, Adam refused to believe it. Though frustrating, his fellow Proselytes did not care enough to act against him as long as he carried out his Prescripts, regardless of the pretense. Meanwhile, Adam convinced himself that although his Prescripts called for violence, he was doing his part as the Child of Light by cleansing everyone of their sins with his presence. However, being the Child of Light was no longer the glamorous status it once was. He was no longer an idol to be worshipped, but a martyr, and rather than cleansing sins, he realized he was taking them unto himself. As the years went by, he grew into a depressive slump, and began to yearn for a life outside of he Index.

When he was 21, he received a letter from the newly formed L Corp. His eyes rounded at the contents. He was being given a job opportunity to become an Agent at their headquarters. This was his opportunity to escape the Index. He could even make a living for himself! He could become independent, find a safer home in the Nest, and begin to live out the rest of his life in peace just as the Absolute Light intended. So, he seized that opportunity.

About a hundred loops in, he would become the First Apostle and meet WhiteNight. Upon seeing it, he believed that it was an incarnation of the Absolute Light given physical form.
