Although he may look more than a little frightening at a glance given his size and crooked blade, Benny is probably one of the most gentle and sensitive cogs ever built, to the point where the vast majority of his coworkers hardly consider him a true cog at all. Between his days working as a public defender with a widespread reputation for happily (and genuinely) representing lawyer-less toons in court cases, Benny loves nothing more than spending time with as many good friends as he can find or simply curling up in a plush seat with a good book.

Given his typically-cheerful demeanor, it’s easy to believe that being the odd one out in every setting doesn’t get to him. Even when he’s being teased, ridiculed, or cursed at, he always seems to bounce back fast, if his mood even appears to drop at all. In actuality, however, he feels his status as an outcast very keenly. Being built as an early prototype of the Beta 2.0 project with no ingrained bias against toons and a simple zest for life meant that almost every cog around him with very few exceptions would immediately brand him as a walking defect at best and a toon sympathizer more often, ensuring that he had no easy place amongst his own kind. Among toons, however, it is hard not to see him as an enemy given that he is still a cog at the end of the day no matter how many rules he’s an exception to.

In light of this position, it’s probably not difficult to see why he is always ready to treat anyone who’ll give him the time of day like a new friend, nor why he tends to be so devoted to his real friends.
