People say I am stuck in childhood, but it's not that. I remember seeing a Matisse retrospective, and you could see he started out one way, and then he tried something different, and then he seemed to spend his whole life trying to get back to the first thing.

It was the wont of the immortal gods sometimes to grant prosperity and long impunity to men whose crimes they were minded to punish in order that a complete reverse of fortune might make them suffer more bitterly.
High level of hand-eye coordination and reflexes, due to having been fighting on the streets from a young age and training for most of his life. Decent with a variety of hand-guns and some level of competence with a sniper rifle, but highly prefers pistols. Best with melee weapons.
BULGASARI; due to an emergency influence conducted to save his life, Hakyeon is no longer human, and is instead a bulgasari -- a mythical creature that is both made of and feasts on metal, unable to die by any means aside from fire. He can shift from a human form to a bulgasari form at will. Due to his nature, he is only able to derive nutrients from metallic substances.
An individual on the somewhat taller side of things, with constantly ruffled dark hair, dark eyes, and equally dark shadows. Generally, he styles his hair in a slight part that keeps the majority of his bangs out of his eyes. Occasionally, he does wear make-up to hide the shadows under his eyes, but sometimes to look nice -- it's a habit ingrained into him from Ryanghyun.
Whether sweaters and jeans or suit and slacks, he is capable of pulling off a wide variety of clothes on his angled, fairly well-balanced body; if not for his multiple markings and lifestyle, many remark he could've been a model in another life. Regardless of what he wears, the majority have long sleeves and aren't too exposed, due to the multiple scars that mar his body.
On both arms, he has several faded cuts near the wrist and old burn marks up and down the span of his limbs, and similar markings down both legs though in less frequency. Across his front and back, Hakyeon carries many scars of differing ages from injuries via knives, more fire, and guns. he has a faded cut on the side of his temple, which he typically covers with foundation or by arranging his hair. His largest one is a very old burn scar from the incident when he was seven years old, spanning across his lower back from his left side and up to his left shoulder blade.
His expression is forever neutral or in some vague resemblance of a scowl, and a smile is exceedingly rare.

- Usually has one brow cocked up, which tends to give him a bit of an arrogant look.
- He has a hand casually resting against his mouth horizontally when thinking
- Tends to lean his head against his hand, elbow on table when he finds something or someone interesting.

- When roused, his hair can get a little spiky/rough, and teeth a little sharp.
Meyerco Darrel Ralph Military Auto-Knife: Its blade is typically wrapped in bandages, and it is never used for actual fighting or defense. The date "2.25.2012" is engraved onto the handle, for reasons unknown to anyone else outside of Hak-pa. The date signifies the date Hakyeon made the decision to attempt re-integration into schooling and normal life.
- Glock 26 Light Pistol: A normal handgun, with no particularly special traits. One of his easiest go-to weapons, and he handles it with great control.
During his schooling years, he was known as one of the top five students of his year, being That One(tm) who emanated cool charisma and nonchalance that struck the charms of many. In the public, he was rarely seen as hassled in any way, taking problems head-on with an incredible sense of smoothness and control. He was one who kept to himself, rarely going out of his way to greet others other than to seem polite, and was considered a mysterious intellect all throughout high school as well as college, where he pursued criminal justice (until he dropped out, anyway).
Prior to attending school, Hakyeon -- or rather, Seonghwa, as he was known then -- exhibited a much different personality: much colder, manipulative, and extremely hostile. In his years of being involved in gang life, he has a side to him that is unforgiving and cruel, and perfectly without qualms to causing fights or ending them by any means necessary. Due to development and the influence of his two most vital companions, Jeong Yewoo and Lee Soonja, he has become a bit more controlled in this aspect; however, it easily resurfaces should it be necessary.
Since the events that have occurred post-college entrance, mainly the arrest of Hak Seonggeun and Hakyeon's public revelation as Hak Seonghwa, the shooting star of Seoul and affiliated to both 白牙 and 學 gangs, he has forcibly dropped out of college and focused himself on keeping his gang family together and alive. Without the necessity of a amicable public image, he has largely dropped it and remains serious and sullen for most of his days, easily prone to fits of violence and anger much like how Seonghwa used to be. A smile from him is exceedingly rare, even in the form of a mocking smirk -- a genuine one is even less seen.
Though he has shut himself away from empathizing with the world at large, he retains a huge dependency on his sense of family, vowing to risk everything if it meant he would protect those in his Alliance, and especially his brother and two lovers.
Due to a traumatic incident in his past, Hakyeon has immense arsonphobia -- the fear of fire. Though it has improved, significantly so compared to his earlier days, it's still enough to jar him and make him hesitant; compounded by the fact that he is now a bulgasari, a creature whose only weakness is fire.
Hwa Hakyeon was initially born Hak Seonghwa, into a relatively modest family in Seoul who had no gang affiliation; had the accident not occurred, he surely would have led a normal life. He was born as the younger brother to Hak Seonggeun, with a gap of eight years -- the distance caused by their family moving around due to work, before settling and deciding on a second child. The brothers were very close despite the gap, for which their parents were thankful.
His idyllic life was abruptly torn from him at the meager age of seven years old, when a house fire caused both the loss of their home and the death of Seonghwa's and Seonggeun's parents; the incident left old burn scars over his body, and a fear of fire that pervaded him throughout life. Parentless and homeless, the two brothers were relocated to an abusive orphanage; due to concern for his younger brother, Seonggeun broke them both out two years after, and they found themselves on the streets once again.
It wasn't long until the lost children, aged nine and seventeen, were picked up by those who prowled the streets. A gang that then-ruled the lower streets known as 白牙 took the two boys in, initiating them into their circle; the older was utilized for strength and willpower, while the younger, still malleable, was taught to shoot his first gun before he reached his tenth birthday. By eleven years old, Seonghwa was actively being taught to be a cold-hearted mercenary -- and his older brother, disagreeing, rebelled and broke off after three years, taking Seonghwa and several other former 白牙 members with him.
Now on their own, they continued on the only way they knew how: they formed a new gang, 學, named after their new leader Hak Seonggeun, and set to create their own small territory within Seoul which they could call home. Centered around weapons and drug trade, they eventually worked their way up from street gang to a small, but semi-reputable faction.
Seonghwa was too young to be part of such a life -- at least, that's what Seonggeun believed, anyway. The boy didn't handle the life too well, after his trauma and abusive past with 白牙, and several suicide attempts were strewn across the months he spent at the gang's headquarters. If not that, he sought physical comfort from their club's patrons from one night to another, much to the unhappiness of Seonggeun who worried for Seonghwa's deteriorating mental state.
When he was fifteen, Seonggeun made a decision -- he wanted Seonghwa distanced from their violent, unstable life, and try to live the life he could've had were it not for their tragedies. Seonghwa was reluctant to go, but he relented, using forced documents and fake identities to enter school as a "transfer student".
His first attempt didn't go well -- with the marks on his wrists and hickeys on his neck, rumours spread quickly across the gossip-eager hallways. Given the rising notoriety of his brother's gang, the students took special interest in his surname, often whispering of his strange attitude and perhaps its relation to the "criminal garbage" that was 學. School life ended abruptly when Seonghwa finally answered to a jeer about Seonggeun, beating down a fellow student until he had to be torn away.
He wasn't eager to return, after that. But Seonggeun spoke to him -- not encouraging him to return to school specifically, but rather, reaffirming his belief that Seonghwa deserved a better life than this. It spurred him, realizing how much his elder brother wanted this -- and the following year, he decided to try again, now using the pseudonym of Hwa Hakyeon to distance his new identity from the criminal family name.
Putting on the façade of a charming teenager with the good looks, he actually put in great effort in his studies to catch up with the other students for years lost, inspired to make Seonggeun proud. He had no interest in the other students in the new school, feeling that they all felt incredibly shallow -- except for one, Lee Soonja, an odd girl in his same class. She would eventually become his first friend, after several visits to the headquarters club where Hakyeon often still worked to help his family.
In his senior year, he caught the attention of a junior boy, Jeong Yewoo; knowing the other's infatuation with him, Hakyeon danced around it until he caught the other up a wall -- still ever-seeking physical comfort from those around him, and the rest was history.
Though he considers his meeting with Yewoo and Soonja as a blessing, it's hard to tell if his life would've been messier or less so without them. Soonja turned out to be a budding priestess also part of a then-rival gang, 玄, and Yewoo had caught the eye of the Death God Daebyeol to be the new incarnation of Yeomra, King of Hell. Add to that, Hakyeon's past as a former member of 白牙 caught up to him, resulting in a series of wars and struggles across different factions both human and non-human --
He won those wars, from sheer tenacity and ferocity, bringing down 白牙, turning 玄 from foe to ally -- but his luck finally ran out, and Hakyeon found himself bleeding out and close to death. Still, by some cruel twist of fate, something decided his time wasn't yet to come. Yewoo and Soonja, using their connection to the spiritual and supernatural, conducted a ritual to influence Hakyeon's spirit with something inhuman to prevent his death. It succeeded, turning him from a human to a bulgasari, a beast of metal.
If that wasn't enough, all the chaos Hakyeon found trailing after him barred him from the non-criminal life he intended to lead. When word got out that his true identity was indeed Hak Seonghwa, the Shooting Star of Seoul, he could no longer continue pretending to be a normal citizen -- dropping out of college, abruptly ending his pursued almost-career in law enforcement.
Despite being only 22, the trauma he carries is great -- and he's given up on pursuing a normal life like Seonggeun had wanted him to, fully committing to the inevitable. Currently, with 學 only able to work from the shadows, he does what he can for his new family to stay alive, all the while depending on his lovers to keep him together.
