The superior machine out of us, Brother.

Soleil (as all cyborgs of his same model, of which he was the very first prototype) was created with the express purpose of being a peacekeeper in tenser areas of the world as the War seemed to come to an end.

That was before robotic beings began to rebel. Of course, he would never lower himself to their level, and he kept on his role siding with humanity, barely engaging with those he had always considered inferior to himself, the most perfect machine, and only if it was absolutely necessary. He wouldn't have killed so many of his "siblings", had they not attacked humans like that.

Soleil kept this up until he came to know who had also gone rogue. His most trusted friend, his biggest inspiration, his sworn brother.

Nox.

That was the highest form of betrayal. How could he ever forgive them? No matter how much he thought about it, he found only one way to settle this. Kill them.

And so, it all
began
spiraling
down.

Personality Summary.

It is unknown whether Soleil's ego was already this inflated before the memory wipe, but it wouldn't make sense to deny it now. He's a being of pride and arrogance, the most perfect human/machine ever created, the main character of his story, the Sun everything else orbits around. And yet, deep down aware of all of his flaws, but not knowing how or wanting to work on them - often convincing himself there's nothing to work on at all - he tries to hide the most visceral feelings and instincts running through his head whenever blood is involved, his enjoyment of putting down and shit-talking his foes, his cowardice whenever things get rough. After all, someone as perfect as him cannot afford to lose. Not without making that motherfucker pay.

Leading Traits.

  • Diligent: Absolute diligence and dedition to one's task are always a focus during the "reworking" of a cyborg's mind, and Soleil was no exception - however, the engineers got lucky with him, finding a specimen with the right characteristics already. Soleil's biggest strenghts are his diligence and his determination to get to the bottom of something no matter what. Whether that is keeping the peace in a tense area or brutally slaughtering an enemy, if it is his task, he will complete it. No ifs, no buts.
  • Intense: One's emotions can be quite odd when the brain has been tampered with to make you more suitable to a role - this is what all cyborgs go through, after all. However, where most ended up cold and near-emotionless due to the major "reworking", Soleil's mind was mostly left untouched, and he ended up much more emotionally intense than his "siblings". Strong outbursts of emotions, positive or negative, are not new to him. Whether that's a good thing or a not, it much depends on the situation.
  • Sore Loser: If there is one thought Soleil can't stand, it's losing, in any way, shape or form. He makes it a pivotal part of his being, to be the best at everything, and when things stop going in his favor, that's when everything comes crashing down. And so, as his fear to face his own imperfection leads him to flee from any confrontation going awry, he shifts the blame on whoever he was fighting against. After all, it cannot be his fault if he failed. And he has to make whoever made him fail pay the price.

First Face : The World.

How does your character behave generally? What do they do if the world has a camera on them?

Even to the world, Soleil shows two faces, depending on whether who's in front of him is on his side or not. With allies, he appears to be a decently amicable person: not the best to work with, but surely not the worst, especially when compared to most V1s or virtually all V2s, while foes get the exact opposite, a cold and ruthless killer who will not hesitate to act if him or his allies are threathened in any way.

Still, there are some aspects he always shows, no matter what: equally as blunt, vain and boastful in front of anyone, he appears as an egotistical and self-centered individual with way too much pride, who ultimately believes he needs nobody else to help him, with the result of others often straying away from him. What he shows outwardly, however, is not only negative: he makes it a point to make sure people can see his (only apparent) courage, his efficiency, his diligence and his loyalty in his actions — unless it is one of those rare cases where he willingly decides to betray his ideals for his own benefit.

Second Face: Close ones.

How does your character behave in front of friends and family? Anything different? Are they more affectionate or a plain asshole?

For cyborgs, the definition of "close ones" is always difficult to define: even if they had families in their pre-cyborg state, they're now a thing of the past and forgotten, and it's hard to make friends when your ability to feel emotions has been tampered with. Soleil is no exception: he doesn't exactly know who he would consider a "close one", except for one person. That person, obviously, being Nox.

As an older brother/mentor kind of figure, Soleil always trusted them deeply, and had never feared showing them his slightly more affectionate side. Any insecurities he might've had, any issues, any nice moments or feelings, Nox knew it all. Soleil somewhat regrets having been so close, now.

In general, Soleil does not behave much differently than his usual to those he can perceive as "close" to him - he's just slightly less of an asshole and a bit more affectionate.

Third Face: True Reflection.

How does your character behave by themselves? What is done from the depths of their hearts, reserved for themselves alone and has never manifested in front of anybody? Do they think they are scum or do they truely think everyone around them is scum?

While Soleil does not make a secret of how superior he feels compared to anyone else, he does hide anything that could hint at how useless he sometimes feels compared to some of his "siblings". He's well aware of how he's not the perfect being he tries to convince himself he is, he knows that, no matter what he does, he won't be able to win every fight, and he knows how much of a coward he becomes when things get rough. Despite this, he keeps on trying to convince himself it's not his fault at all, if he's flawed - whether he's shifting the blame on the foes who defeated him or on his creators for not making him strong enough for it, he's never the one to blame. After all, if he's not the most perfect blend of human and machine, what does he have that other cyborgs don't?

Trivia
  • His age is only an estimate. Records of his birth and of all his life before have been purged, as is standard during the creation of cyborgs, so there's no way of knowing exactly when he was born; his 22 years of age come from an estimate made by the engineers. The only sure thing is that he was born before the Peace started, as by the time he was made operative it had been going on for only nine years.
  • He is quite an excellent dancer — he can do pretty much any style of dancing with ease, and his skill is pretty noticeable.
  • Very good at videogames of various genres! His favorites are first-person shooters where he can just get violent and have fun shooting up people. He'll never admit he also likes cuter, more relaxing games (think Animal Crossing), which he finds somewhat helpful for dealing with stress better.
  • His blood type is B-.
  • While he's terrible at dealing with people his age or older (more often than not ending up acting like a plain asshole), he's surprisingly good with kids. He has a huge soft spot for them: he won't show any remorse at the act of slaughtering a fellow cyborg or an adult human, but he has trouble dealing with the thought of hurting a child in any way.
  • He's fluent in English, French and International Sign Language (an in-universe one) on his own, and has some very basic understading of a lot of other languages — nothing more than a "Google Translate" level of capabilities, if that makes sense — since he has a built-in translator. It's a bit rough around the edges, but it works just fine for its use.

Soleil is still really fucking pissed at Nox for ripping his arm out, a lot more than he is for his eye.

He wants to make them pay at least twice as much, but just getting rid of both their arms would be too boring. Besides, after all they've done, they deserve something even harsher.

also i snatched the quote from max0r's ultrakill act 2 video im sorry

Normal Post-Versus

Soleil was created during a period of peace and not to go to war, but to keep the peace stable and people safe: as such, he's generally weaker than cyborgs built specifically for fighting, but still more than capable of using violence to fulfill his role, if needed.

This balance changed drastically after the events of Versus, as he requested upgrades to be done in order to make him stronger. He got exactly what he wanted: most notably, his attack almost doubled thanks to the new arm, and his already high accuracy got even better with the new eye. After all the upgrades, Soleil is ready to make someone pay. Starting from those who hadn't made him strong enough from the beginning.

"Dies Irae"

Soleil's new arm, built for close range fighting, with a variety of different modes to make it as versatile as possible.

Strength
  • much better, faster, and stronger than the other arm
  • many features, versatile
  • looks pretty cool

Weaknesses
  • no emotional attachment
  • sometimes overheats, making usage slower and painful
  • switching modes takes a long time (relatively)

Abilities

After Nox cut Soleil's left arm off, he had the engineers build a new one specifically to be better in any way imaginable. He still kinda wants the old one back for the emotional attachment, but the superiority of this one can't be denied.

The new arm has a ton to offer. Apart from functioning as a tougher version of a normal arm, making it able to not only deliver great punches, but also to better handle damage, it also comes with various modes to make it usable for various styles of combat and an overall more versatile tool. Such modes include, but are not limited to, an "endurance" one, which makes its surface harder and makes it so Soleil can parry attacks with it, one where it can turn into a blade, one where it can deliver some degree of electrical shocks, and a favorite of Soleil, where shotgun shells are blasted inside the knuckles, producing damage and a shockwave.

Of course, such a weapon can't not have its downsides, too, given how complex it is and how much of a novelty it is. The modes have to be manually switched, and the switch itself can take up to ten full seconds during which it's pretty much unusable, which makes it relatively slow, especially when compared to the time it takes other cyborgs to effectively switch weapons or reload their ones (which is usually below two seconds). Some modes (notably, the shockwave and the electric one) can also cause its systems to overheat, which not only makes its usage slower, but also makes it quite painful, since the nerves in Soleil's shoulder connect directly to it.

Daytime Gunsight Eye

A new artificial eye, granting improved eyesight and some cool extra bonuses.

Strength
  • augmented accuracy
  • can zoom in on things
  • can perceive heat

Weaknesses
  • can't really see if there's not much light around
  • sometimes doesn't focus on the right thing
  • occasionally jams and has to be hit before it can move well again

Abilities

Soleil also lost his right eye in his first fight against Nox, and got it replaced with an artificial one. It's analogous to Saul's right eye, functioning in the same way: a gunsight with crosshairs, able to lock on targets, increasing accuracy (whether with punches or with guns), zoom in and sense heat, aiding in looking for hidden enemies.

Being artificial, it works kind of like a very high resolution camera, with the issue of sometimes focusing on the wrong thing and making the actual targets look blurry until it fixes itself (giving it a little hit usually helps). It happens to jam occasionally, not moving properly (once again, hittin it usually fixes the issue). The specific eye model is made to work in daylight, and is pretty much blind if there's not enough light (even the heat vision starts acting a bit funny).

Tactic
give it all until the situation gets too rough, then retreat

Attitude
protective, merciless (but cowardly)

Range
close to mid range

"Protecting others peacefully is a priority, but when given no other choice I have to get violent. It's not as bad as it might seem. It can even get fun."

TL;DR: "Too Long, Didn't Read"

warning for mentions of unethical experimentation, war, and violence.

  • Soleil can remember nothing of his life before being turned into a cyborg; first memory is waking up in an unfamiliar room.
  • He finds out about being a cyborg built for peacekeeping and gets some more things explained to him by Nox. He picks out his chosen name, Soleil, and starts getting closer to Nox.
  • Soleil is made fully operative for testing, more prototypes are made, then cyborgs of his same model begin to be serialized.
  • The Peace is broken by rebellious cyborgs attacking humans. Soleil sides with mankind and is much more efficient at defending it than other protectors.
  • Soleil finds out Nox is involved in the Insurrection and fights them. He gets his ass absolutely handed to him, now missing an eye and an arm.
  • Soleil goes back to his creators and gets a new eye and arm. He then kills them for not making him strong enough from the beginning, then leaves to go look for Nox again, reveling in the thought of avenging himself once and for all.
  • and then they fall in love :) they still hate each other but also :)

Chapter Zero: "Prologue."

What came before Soleil became a cyborg.

Soleil's memories of anything that came before he was turned into a cyborg are extremely blurry, an incoherent chaos of sounds, places, smells, ideas, dreams. He knows they're there, but he just cannot grasp them, no matter how hard he tries. Maybe he remembered he wasn't always a cyborg a bit too late, after having strayed too far away from them already, and there's not much he can do about it.

Chapter One: "Genesis."

The beginning of Soleil's new existence.

The first memory was waking up in an unfamiliar room, with no clue of who were all the people around him, all those unknown faces, all staring at him as if they had never seen anything like him before, whispering between themselves. The second memory was a feeling of deep confusion, the realization that he did not know who he was, either. The third memory was feeling pain, for a reason he could not know.

He soon learned all those people were engineers, specialized in the creation of cyborgs. He was, in their words, "still one of a kind" and "their greatest achievement yet", the first prototype of a new Version and Model of cyborgs built for peace, to keep situations stable and to protect people in need, unlike his "siblings" — other cyborgs, he supposed — who had been made for war. Finally, they told him that his name, officially, was V3-PKM-P1, but that he could choose a better fitting name by himself.

At first, the situation was confusing, to say the least. Everything they said or did made little to no sense to him. He understood nothing, nothing at all. For a brief moment, the though of just killing them all crossed his mind — they had to be messing with him. Something he would not tolerate.

That was until one of the people in the room came forward. Introducing themself as V1-WZM-P1, or simply Nox, they explained what the engineers were talking about and that they, too, were a cyborg — and a first protoype, on top of that. Their voice never raising or changing intonation much, they tried to make everything as clear as possible, between the engineers talking to themselves and the newly-awoken cyborg's questions. Finally, there came a glimpse of understanding.

When Nox asked him what he would like to be called — V3-PKM-P1 was quite a mouthful to say, after all — he had to think about it for a while. Eventually, he came to make his choice.

"Soleil".

From then on, Soleil would harbour the deepest respect for Nox, viewing them as sort of an older brother or mentor, giving them the credit as teacher for all he knew at the time. If only he had known how the situation would have changed, he would've never gotten so close to them. It could have spared him the pain of seeing someone you love betray you.

Chapter Two: "Insurrection."

A period of peace, broken.

After some more verifications to ensure everything was right with him, Soleil was officially made fully operative, in order to see what would go down: if everything went as expected, a couple more prototypes of V3-PKM cyborgs would be made to further test their capabilities and characteristics, before beginning serialization. Luckily enough, this is pretty much what happened, apart from a couple hiccups in the road, and a few years later the serialization began. This all happened in a period of peace the new V3-PKM cyborgs were tasked with maintaining, no matter the means necessary. They were loyal protectors of mankind, built to make everyone feel more secure now that the war seemed over.

However, the previous models of cyborgs, the ones who had been made for war, began to harbour a deep resentment towards their creators for what they had forced them to go through. They had been deprived of their life before the war permanently, deprived of a lot of their free will and emotions, deprived of their humanity.

Rumors of more and more cyborgs suddenly rebelling, brutally killing any humans they'd come across, began to spread. Soldiers, doctors, judges, soon enough almost every cyborg became a part of the Insurrection, in a way started and led by none other by the very first cyborg ever created. Nox.

There were cyborgs who decided to still side with mankind, such as most V3s. They would not abandon their role of protectors, no matter what. Yet, a single cyborg cannot do much against a pack of others, ready to slaughter any obstacle in their path. Many, many V3s lost their lives in a futile attempt to protect humans. Among them, however, was not Soleil.

Soleil managed to fend off most attacks very efficiently, in a display of his perceived absolute superiority when compared to other cyborgs. He began getting less and less tolerant of infractions to that ideal he perceived as sacred, to not hurt the humans that gave cyborgs all they were, he began getting more and more violent in his interventions, he began enjoying that aspect more and more.

Soon, however, he would learn who was the "leader" of the Insurrection, a name way too familiar. Nox's direct involvement made him distraught. Someone he had trusted so much, now an enemy to face, to defeat, to kill in cold blood. As much as it hurt, Soleil pushed it all as deep as he could inside himself. He was not going to let some idiotic feelings stop him from doing his job. He had to protect mankind. If that meant killing Nox, then so be it. Mercy was not an option.

Chapter Three: "Versus."

The real turning point in Soleil's life.

Soleil wanted the fight against Nox to be something grandiose, a true turning point in his life. He wanted a duel, just him against them until one of them dropped dead. He wanted it to be bloody, to be violent, to be fun. He would get what he wanted, in a way; sadly, it was the worst possible way for him.

He got a duel. He got a bloody, violent fight. He got his arm and eye ripped out by Nox, virtually unscathed compared to him. That, certainly, would end up a turning point. For the first time in all those years, Soleil looked at death face to face, realizing just how much stronger Nox was, how hopeless with struggle against them was.

Covered in his own blood, his circuits exposed, pain running through every inch of his body, terrified, Soleil fled. There wasn't much more he could do if he didn't want to die, and he was determined to live to see another day.

He went back to those same engineers who had created him, asking for something more than simple repairments. He always wanted more, this was not an exception, but this time the engineers put much more effort into creating whatever would boost Soleil in fights. He knew the research would be long, but he didn't mind waiting. He just wanted to have his chance at beating Nox alone.

When the arm and the eye were finally ready, Soleil took a while before he could truly find himself at ease with them. He had to practice their usage a lot, to get used to the feeling of something that was not with him from the moment he woke up as a new being altogether, but when that moment came, he felt absolutely invincible. A new arm and a new eye, studied to be deadlier and more efficient than ever seen before. With those, Soleil was sure he would not lose again.

Before he could leave and go hunt Nox down for their rematch, however, he still had one thing to settle once and for all. In the workshop, thee satisfaction of improving onto an ally cyborg quickly turned into terror as Soleil began attacking.

"Enough crying. You've brought this upon yourselves. It's such a shame, you had not made me strong enough the first time around... It would've spared you the price you have to pay now."

Soleil's words had never been so coldly cruel before, not even in the worst fight, much less against people everyone else would have seen as completely innocent — to him, they were only a minuscule step above the insurrectionists, guilty of having hidered him in some way. Soon enough, there were no engineers left alive, only the broken bodies and blood of those he had loved and hated so passionately, laying motionless on the floor.

They were gone, and yet Soleil's bloodlust remained unsatiated.

"...Truly a fitting aftermath for such an insignificant fight. I sure hope my next foe won't be as weak... This time, you won't be so lucky. I won't be defeated so easily. You'll have no hope of winning this one."

After all, they had always been the reason he acted as he had in his life. At first, it was out of admiration. Then, it shifted. And now, the leading forces were those aesthetics of hate he found out he much preferred to simple love.

"Get ready. This will be our final showdown, Brother. And this time around, I won't fucking lose."

"look just kiss me already so i can kill you without any regrets. fuck you."

The Past: First Encounter and Impressions

Soleil first met Nox upon his first awakening as a cyborg, and almost immediately found his first stable reference point in them, in the middle of his confusion.

He and Nox quickly grew closer, with Soleil viewing them as some sort of older sibling figure (he began calling them "Brother" during this time, despite them not being related in any way, an habit that stuck until present day) and a trusted mentor, the only person allowed to see his weaker, more fragile aspects. In the long run, Soleil ended up developing a crush on them, managing to hide it surprisingly well, in fear of rejection and of ruining his friendship with Nox. Although he wasn't aware of this, it was mutual-

This relationship would last in this state until the Insurrection began, with Nox as the "leader", and Soleil would decide to side with humanity, still. This would lead to the relationship spiraling down, reaching the very bottom during the first confrontation between the two, the one where Soleil lost his eye, his arm and his pride.

The Present: Attitudes and Dynamic

Soleil absolutely resents Nox. He's still really pissed off at them for what they did to him (on more levels than just the physical one), and wants to make them pay at least twice at much, all for his own desire of revenge. He feels it's completely justified: the one who was his closest friend hurt him deeply, breaking every single one of their promises, going against what once were shared and sacred ideals, betraying every aspect of their bond: it's only fair for them to face the consequences of their actions.

Beneath this hatred, he still struggles with all the remnants of their previous relationship, crush included. He tries to find a balance between the two aspects, but calling it an useless ordeal would be an understatement. For now he suppresses them, but he doesn't know when they will come out or how they'll manifest.

The Future: Hopes

What Soleil hopes for the future is complicated for him, and much more complex than what he wishes it could be. He's triying his best to just completely hate Nox, to want them dead, to just want to murder them in cold blood without regrets. And yet, he cannot shake off some of his feelings, the ones he's been harbouring since the beginning of their relationship. The respect he always gave them. The trust he put into them. The understanding between the two. That crush he had never confessed. He doesn't want to feel them, to let them hinder his path, to stop him from just killing Nox, but he can't do anything about them. All he can do is hope they'll disappear.

friend (pre-insurrection)

"He has truly impressive skills with his guns and with videogames... Not much more needs to be said about him. He's a cool guy."

Positive Negative

Soleil used to be quite close to Saul, having gotten to know him quite well during their time together. The two would often practice using some specific guns that interested them both together or do simple pastime activities such as playing videogames (at which they were both quite good). Of course, they grew more distant with the beginning of the Insurrection, as Saul joined in.

acquaintance

"An admirable person, worthy of her status; it's no wonder Nox harbours great respect for her, too. The world could use some more Gaias — on our side."

Positive Negative

Soleil never came to know Gaia as much as he did with Nox or Saul, but still admires her principles and discipline, with most of what he knows of her coming from Nox's stories about her. While he sometimes wishes Nox didn't seem so fond of her, he still kept on decent terms with her, the situation only worsening after she joined the Insurrection.
