BASICS
β...Your savior can't even save himself.β
The world was divided into two periods: Before and After. Nowadays, the "before" has faded from Cassette's memories, with the ruins of the city feeling realer than the faint echoes of society. The shopping malls, celebrations, pedestrians rushing for work, the roaring hum of cars - life itself has ceased. All that can be heard now is the growling, a sound that trembles Cass's bones and creeps into their dreams, sending their hands gripping their precious bat. There must be a way back. There must be.

FACTS
"Relationships are quite troublesome..."
βAlbedo, Genshin Impact (Khoi Dao)
Losing more sleep / Surely gonna die 'fore I wake
- There had never been a warning before they had struck. Locked in the house for the last 5 days, Cassette's food had run out, leaving him no other choice but to brave the outside. Back then, the bat was bright and new, a brilliant
fire engine red
...that stood out in the closet. He gripped it in a sweaty palm, emerging into the outside and swinging it with a crack before running, breathing shallow as his feet hit the sunbaked asphalt. Those diseased wheezes faded away. Cassette lived. Now, the bat is scuffed, bloodstained and old, but they'd never leave their precious weapon behind..

PERSONALITY
Cassette is naturally quiet and introverted, but not a frosty quiet. They are simply comfortable with long silences where other people would want to fill the world with noise. A natural loner, he depends on his own abilities to survive the changed landscape, only ever confiding worries and concerns to Mincemeat and the few uncorrupted animals that he comes across. There's a part of his memory that feels...missing and incomplete. Ever since after the incident, Cassette can only recall the faint impressions of a past, a house, a family, and panics at the sight of needles. Sometimes, he gets lonely. It's at those times that he listens to the cassettes that he caries, hearing the scratchy haunting voices of singers from another time and wondering what their lives may have been like.
DESIGN
NOTES
- Cass has complete heterochromia iridum. Right eye is white, left is gray.
- Cassettes on the jacket/hair are not optional.
- Refer to secondary ref for stitch placement β₯ (incomplete)
- Their mouth is typically hidden, if not by a jacket, by a face mask.
- Smells like "Cotton candy and 70% isopropanol! Just something very artificial and pure!β’"
BACKGROUND
During the Incident
It was the last day of February. That day was the last day the news played, telling the world to stay calm, that it would all be over with and solved. That was also the last day that Cassette had ever gone to high school, last time they had spoken to their friends, the last time things were...normal. Afterwards, the panic was all that remained. The entire world was imploding with it, doors locking, people hunkering down in bunkers in the hope that they wouldn't be next. Things fell apart. Cass had gone home and opened the door, and his parents were gone. All he could see were the shattered remains of the TV frozen, full of static.
After the Incident
Sometimes, bad things happen for no reason. But this, this had a reason. Cass was sure. That's why he's going to find out.
RELATIONSHIPS
Even when it all turned dark, Mincemeat remained, pleading for food with wide feline eyes and demanding mews. Mince is from the before, as ancient and precious as any relic. She's not a pet, but more than that - a companion. Nowadays, Mince is one of the only living beings that Cass trusts unconditionally, and Mince sticks near Cass at all times in return.
10 days, 10 nights, 11 hours: the shadow pursues. Afterimages dance in Cassette's vision, sending shivers down his spine, but he suppresses the panic, replacing it with annoyance if only to soothe himself. No biter stalks for that long. They'll be fine. they'll be fine?
