SUMMARY
“It is only the sacred things that are worth touching" *Turns dorian gray into this thing*
Dorian is a character created for Cryptid College; a comic created by my friend Zephergoat and I, a modern college-set comedy/dram focused around parodies of classic gothic lit monsters and/or cryptids attending a college designed to teach them how to be monsters. He is based off Dorian Gray from Oscar Wilde's The Picture Of Dorian Gray and is one of the onl Cryptid College students who's original book events are canon to the comic. Dorian was born in the late 1800s, but gained eternal youth and immortality in 1890 when he 20 years old and 130 years later, he is attending Crypt Creek University (mainly because he became incredibly sloppy at hiding the fact he'd been 20 for over a century). He's pretty much only a background character in the actual comic, but he does run the school news.
PERSONALITY
Dorian Gray is a self-centered, snooty, air-headed young man who's entire world revolves around his looks and how adored he is by others. He was given immortality by wishing for a portrait of him to bear the marks of his aging and sins and thus thinks himself to be above consequence. He's rude to those around him, and quite honestly can be a dick to women especially due to views passed onto him by his boyfriend Henry Wotton. He's also very, very stupid. Not only because he's incredibly impressionable but he also flaunted his immortality so openly for over a century that Crypt Creek University staff had to personally hunt him down and force him to attend the school because he was an active danger to exposing monster society. He was told to major in Avoiding Photography and will only be allowed out of the school once he passes the course, it has been over 30 years and he has yet to get above a D in any class.
- He absolutely despises the student body of Crypt Creek, hates how they find no issue running around with unsightly flaws and hideous monsterous faces and have no decency to even try to cover them. He's also very upset that despite his decades of attempts to reach popularity amongst the student body, most seem to be indifferent to him and his looks or even actively despise him. He's tried to shift things like fashion trends at the school twoards his taste but it never works; he misses the days in human society when people would grovel at his feet just due to his looks.

STORY
BACKSTORY
Cryptid College's Dorian Gray's story is pretty much the same as the Dorian Gray of Oscar Wilde's original novel. In 1890, he was 20 years old and became the sole muse of the painter Basil Hallward. Basil painted a portrait of Dorian so beautiful that Dorian wished that the painting would age instead of him. This was also due to Lord Henry Wotton, who influenced Dorian into believing that his life would have no worth once he lost his youth and beauty. Dorian met a girl named Sybil Vane, who he fell in love with her due to her skills as an actress. After he promised to marry her, however, she seemed to lose her acting talent completely. This enraged Dorian and he broke off their engagement on the spot. Later that night, Sybil poisoned herself and Dorian noticed that the portrait began to become corrupted, showing signs of his sin. As the years went on, Dorian stayed the same as the portrait aged for him, and was corrupted more and more by his sin. Dorian hid his portrait away in his attic as it slowly drove him mad, until one day he brought Basil Hallward up to the attic and showed him what had become of his painting. When Basil reacted in horror, Dorian fatally stabbed him as an act of revenge for creating the cursed portrait. (Okay this is where it's gonna diverge from the canon book ->) Later, Dorian tried to destroy the portrait himself, but it was to no avail, the curse was to remain on him indefinitely.
CURRENT
No one really knows what happened in the century after Dorian realized his immortality, Henry Wotton died not long after but through historical documents it seems that Dorian stayed in his original social circle for as long as he could, starting life anew only once they died off or were simply too old to be considered London elites anymore. This is incredibly frowned upon in the monster world, immortal beings who choose to live in human society should always find a way to skip town or change their appearence/identity once their lack of aging becomes questionable. Dorian Gray, however, did quite the opposite. He proudly drew attention to his youthful, attractive looks any chance he got for attention and fame; using them to climb the social ladder as fast as he could each time he DID have to find a new circle. He never changed his identity or lied about his age, photos of him with a 20-year-old's face across decades could be found with ease, some even displayed in historical builings.
Crypt Creek began to take notice of Dorian's blatent showboating of his immortality and decided it was far too risky to allow an immortal to allow humans to find out about his supernatural ability. Especially with the rise of technology making it much easier to prove that Dorian WAS immortal, he could very easily expose the monster world; which first of all, could get monster hunters sent to their school, but more importantly could lose monsters a LOT of job oppurtunities since a lot of their scaring of humans comes from fear of the unknown :/. So they sent a group of monsters to go to London and snatch Dorian, forcing him to attend CCU as a Avoiding Photography major, not allowed back in society until he earned his degree. Unfortunately for Dorian, this was 30 years ago and he has yet to even pass a single class.
Upon arriving at Crypt Creek Dorian ALSO learned that, whoops! Both Sybil Vane and Basil Hallward also attend CCU! The two people he murdered (or basically murdered) are apparently ghosts now, how fun. But also Henry Wotton is here too and that IS fun because he likes that guy and they just continued dating where they left off in the 1800s. Since Dorian had nothing to do between failing all his classes and being confined to school grounds as punishment for not hiding his immortality, he began to run the school news. Mainly he does random 'man on the street' style interviews around campus, catches the student body up on school gossip, or forces makeovers upon random students.
RELATIONSHIPS
"You, Mr. Gray, you yourself, with your rose-red youth and your rose-white boyhood, you have had passions that have made you afraid, thoughts that have filled you with terror, day-dreams and sleeping dreams whose mere memory might stain your cheek with shame[.]"
Lord Henry Wotton is Dorian's current boyfriend, they used to be in a polyamourus relationship with Basil Hallward but that kind of fell off once Dorian stabbed and killed him. Henry was the original person who put the idea of youth and beauty being above all else into Dorian's mind, the ideas that caused him to wish for the portrait to age instead of him in the first place. They are actively making each other worse. How did Henry end up at CCU in the 21st century despite being born in the 1800s and not dying in the book? He got hit by a train after the book ended.
"But you, Dorian, with your pure, bright, innocent face, and your marvellous untroubled youth—I can’t believe anything against you."
Basil Hallward was the painter who originally created Dorian's portrait, he was desperately in love with Dorian and he was his one and only muse for some time. Basil, Wotton, and Dorian were in a relationship with each other for some time, which of course was ended after Dorian actually murdered him. Unbeknownst to Dorian, Basil became a ghost upon his death, and Crypt Creek's resident oracle decided to enroll his spirit at the school upon his death. A century later when Dorian was forcibly enrolled at CCU, he was shocked to learn that Basil was also attending the school. Basil was incredibly upset that his peace at the school had been disturbed, and holds a large grudge against Dorian for killing him. Dorian geniuenly does not understand what he did wrong and does not get why Basil is mad at him, though HE is upset at Basil for not giving him attention like he used to >:/.

Mary is the little sister of Frankenstein's monster, Adam. While she may not be fond of talking to many people, one person she became close with was Basil Hallward due to them being art majors and having overlapping classes. Unfortunately for Basil, Mary is a monster and found the idea of a little cutie pie like Dorian murdering Basil to be absolutely hilarious. She immediately began talking to Dorian and found him funny enough that she kept bringing him around Basil. Even more so when she met Henry Wotton and they got on like a house on fire. Mary treats Dorian kind of like a purse dog, using him for entertainment and enjoying whenever he acts stupid. Dorian enjoys the attention, he'd much rather get attention from people finding him attractive but at a monster school Mary laughing at him or mockingly calling him a cutie patootie is the closest he's getting. She's also a fashion design major and often uses Dorian to model new outfits for her which is always fun for him. Though she WILL smack him or Henry over the head with her cane when they start talking about their weird beliefs.

Dorian Gray and Edward Hyde absolutely despise each other, no one really knows WHY but they do. Well Hyde knows why -Dorian Gray once ran up to Jekyll in the hallway and publically embarrased him for an interview- but Hyde can't TELL anyone that without outing himself as being Jekyll. Dorian doesn't like Hyde because Hyde punched him once, also because he is ugly💖
TRIVIA
- Will often hang out near the mad science wing of the school despite finding scientists boring, since they're the only humans at the school and thus the only group who he can get attention out of for his looks.
- Once ran a poll to see who the most desired guy in school was and it ended up being Jekyll, then he decided the result wasn't conclusive enough and tried to run a poll to see who had slept with the most people and it was Hyde, he ended up scream-crying and refusing to run the news that day.
- Really REALLY wants to go to one of the off-campus parties he's always hearing of, but the school's sentient and keeps locking windows or moving hallways backwards to catch him whenever he tries to sneak out and he cant figure out a way to bypass it.
- Smells like cinnamon :)
