The Black Rock mountains are an unforgiving place, especially during the winter months. With an increase in adventure tourism, it was decided that something needed to be done to help keep people safe. The adaptability and durability of Beardogs is well-researched, so scientists decided to use this to their advantage. Thus, Magnus was created. Magnus is actually an acronym: Mountain Assistance and Guidance, Not Under Surveillance. They're a self-reliant rescue system that was deposited in the mountains to help climbers get by. They hunt, sleep, and function as any regular Beardog would, but they've been enhanced in several ways to perform their useful function. Their body contains a substance that produces heat, and their horns amplify phone signals so that stuck climbers can call for rescue. Advancements made during Project: TERRA allows Magnus to use photosynthesis to survive in a pinch. Magnus was even given a headplate modeled after domestic dogs, so that climbers wouldn't be afraid. They were then released into the wilderness to assist those in peril.

Magnus loves their job. They're never really alone, always sticking close to the places that climbers and other adventurers frequent. They enjoy helping others out and observing the rescues. Their favorite part is when climbers share their snacks. Magnus is unable to verbally communicate with people, so they usually just try to make it apparent that they are listening. They're as expressive as their headplate allows them to be. Overall, Magnus is friendly, patient, and easy to trust. They're also intensely curious about the activities of the people they are tasked to protect.
