Went to college for Aerospace engineering.
She's crazy smart and learns super quickly, this leading to her being picked to work on a secret program that's preparing a new planet for civilization to be moved to. She gets training on both engineering for the spaceship, as well as pilot training in case she would need to take over for the auto pilot.
Of course working on this means keeping quiet, and leaving the planet, possibly forever...

but how could she say no to going into space?
