Wishing Tree Forest
According to local folk tales, a giant fell, its body forming the canyon. Eventually, the forest reclaimed the land, and new growth began to form. The saplings were blessed with particularly empathetic and perceptive spirits known as Kodama, who grew to love being adorned with hopes and dreams.
During the Star Festival, which takes place in late summer, the nearby village will make a pilgrimage to the young trees in the canyon, leaving their wishes tied to the branches and creating a canopy of brightly colored paper.
