Appearance
Heave is a rather large and sturdy roo with a dark base pelt. Splashes of lighter color cover his front and midsection with lighter flecks dotting his flanks. His face is colorful with a large crest on his bill and tall antlers adorning his head. He is of average build, not overly muscular but not lacking strength. His expression is almost always neutral or slightly irritated. Unless he is near his wife Heft. In her presence he will always appear more relaxed with a slight smile on his beak.
Nestling-Fledgeling
Heave was born to a small family of hardworking avus. He was second to hatch after his sister, Ho. Their father, Hurtle, was an extremely ambitious and driven avus who had inherited a family fishing business started by his grandfather, Heave's great-grandfather. Both avus had long passed on, leaving Hurtle the sole owner of the business. Hurtle made it clear not much was more important to him than the survival of the company, not even the wishes of his own children. They were put to work at a very young age and taught the ins and out of raising fish, fishing, cleaning fish, selling fish, and how to manage finances. Heave revered his father like a god, following his every word and striving to make him proud. He wanted nothing more than to receive his father's praise. His sister, Ho, couldn't have been more different. She hated her father for robbing her of friends and play-time. She wanted desperately to leave home and attend school and experience the world outside the confines of their fishery. Being the eldest, she was next in line to inherit the family's company. Heave couldn't understand why his sister would turn away from such an honor. He argued with her relentlessly and in the end, it drove a wedge between them and the rest of his siblings.
Sub-adult
Not long after reaching sub-adult years Heave's sister Ho ran away from the homestead, leaving behind her parents, siblings, and her claim on the business. This threw their father into a rage and despite their mother's protests, he effectively disowned his eldest chick. All traces of her were removed from the home and any mention of her name was met with shushes and extra chores. Hurtle named Heave firstborn and declared him their family's inheritor. Still reeling by the betrayal of his sister Heave vowed to do his absolute best. He would make his father proud. Nothing else seemed to matter to the roo. He remained level-headed and cutthroat in his business endeavors and with his father's guidance Heave came into his own as a businessman as well as a soldier. Their family was no stranger to the war, even if they were a bit removed from it. Each son served time on and off however their father made sure none lost sight of the business for long.
Adult
Eventually, the day came when Heave would inherit everything his parents left for him. His parents had already been old when they had their clutch, wanting to wait until they had a steady income so their children could live comfortable lives. His mother had been the first to leave to meet the dragons, taken by an illness. Her passing had hit Heave's father hard as the two had been very close to one another. And now as an old and broken roo, Hurtle had little choice but to retire. He lived long enough to see his son's success two years before he eventually succumbed to his age. Heave gave himself little time to mourn his father's passing. He buried himself in his work and the company. Later at his father's funeral, he was introduced to a similarly wealthy family whom his father had good ties with. It was in both party's favor to keep their relations strong and so they introduced Heave to their daughter, Orchid. Orchid was a proud hen around the same age as Heave and it didn't take long for Heave to fall madly in love with her. The two were soon wed and Heave named her co-owner of the business. Orchid, keeping with the naming traditions of Heave's family, renamed herself Heft. Heave would spend countless hours doting on his wife, bringing her only the finest of silks, food, and trinkets.
A few years into their marriage the pair had a clutch of two roos: Hoist and Haul. Heave felt nothing but love for this offspring and doted on them almost as much as he doted on his wife. Following in the footsteps of his father and his father's father he began teaching the pair as soon as they were old enough to understand. Hoist, his eldest, was set to inherit the family business. No greater honor could be bestowed upon his children, he thought. However, as Hoist grew older it quickly became apparent that he had no interest in his inheritance. Fearing a repeat of his sister's transgression Heave has done everything in his power to force his son into understanding his role in life even going so far as to physically push the roo around. He never intended to hurt his young son, but his fear and frustrations caught up with him. Doomed to repeat the same mistakes as his own father had.
