Tesla Springshine, otherwise known as Ion, is a young, scrappy hero who first made her name in her small town Araya. She is currently travelling from town to town to try and fight off the Descendants who are trying to steal powers from heroes and villains alike. While her crass language and ferocious temper might intimidate heroes that fight alongside her, it doesn't take much for heroes to realize she's actually incredibly friendly and warm-hearted. While she's never one to lose hope or give up a fight, recent events in Ion's life have left her feeling a little a little more lonely as she learns to navigate the hero life. In her heart, she's hoping to end this conflict with the Descendents and return home to Araya with the people she loves the most.

Story Progression

Fleeting Happiness: Beginnings of Ion

Baby Tesla initially moonlights as a secret hero of Araya, unknowingly thwarting the plans of The Mother of Monsters: Echidna! She meets Connar when they're 12, and he becomes her secret keeper and unexpected ally in keeping the town safe. Throughout the years, their bond grows stronger as she goes through various events such as Mana and Hana both leaving Araya for various reasons (Mana being adopted by Adrestia, Hana being adopted by Tanya's family and being sick of Araya). When Tesla's 17, she finally defeats Echidna and forces the monster out of Araya, earning her hero title from the village: Ion! Not long after, the Descendants hear of her, and all hell breaks loose as she discovers that there are much scarier monsters than Echidna in their world. Nearly burned alive for the sake of retrieving her magic and witnessing her sister lose her connection to magic, Ion is forced to abandon Araya as the leader of the Descendants, Set, targets her as his ultimate target. Happy endings are never truly the end, it seems.

The Striking Hero, Ion!

Ion's start to being a hero in Sents lore! Thes story kicks off with her as a baby adult of 18 years, going town to town to evade the Descendants. She eventually winds up in Solidar and gets help from Patch and Stormstruck to finally have a break from all her running. During her stay here, she becomes inspired by the heroes of Solidar and decides that she needs to stop running from the Descendants and take the fight to them!

Total Knockout!

Ion's got a better grip on being a hero nowadays and is working to learn all that she can to become a better fighter. By training with people like Flarespike, Immoveable Force, and Silver Hammer's ex-champion, Kanin, Ion is improving her fighting style. This sort of training allows her to start her side job as a mixed martial arts teacher and earn some disposable income on the side. It's almost serendipitious that she picked up such a job, as it allows her to be there for Zero when he gets knocked through the window of her studio from Paladin Rome's goons. Never one to back down from a fight, it's time for Ion to put those new skills to work and help Zero take down The Clockwork Master, once and for all!

The Adopted Springshine

A simple mission with her sisters go south as Hecate's adopted mother, Adrestia, finally breaks her way back into the Sentinels main universe, with the ill-intent of bringing Hecate back with her against the young girl's will. The deadly assassin was challenge enough for the sisters, and ultimately she wins the battle and kidnaps Hecate through the multiverse. It's up to Gadgeteer and Ion to work out their differences and past grudges in order to save their beloved sister from the abusive witch!

Filled With Electric Fury

Bastion's father, Cazra, has made his move on the Sentinels universe and deleted several heroes from existence, including Shelter, Hecate, Gadgeteer, and Zero. Devastated by her loss, Ion only has anger left to rely on to prevent herself from falling into despair. She will do whatever it takes to get her family back and will commit to a ceaseless rampage until they are safe in her arms once again.

Ballroom Blitz

With the events of Thicker Than Blood at the forefront of her mind, Ion has a new appreciation for how short time with loved ones can be. All too aware of her feelings for Zero and no longer wanting to waste time, the young woman plans to tell him how she really feels and attempt a relationship with him once again. That being said, things are easier said than done, as Paladin Rome's grandson, Reverb, is causing quite the ruckus, and it's going to take an infiltration into his masquarade to beat the new threat.

Lightning Bruiser

Between being back with Zero and having worked out all her baggage with her family, Ion is starting to feel more and more like herself again. Naturally, life finds a way to throw new challenges in her face. The dawn of the Architech is here, as a Hana from another universe descends into their world, promising destruction of their world as they know it. With her arrival brings familiar faces from that ruined universe, including a haunted Zero, destroyed by the death of Ion and overtaken by the curse of Hell's Own, and a Hecate ruined by the touch of the Void, their presence shakes Ion and her friends, leaving them to wrestle with the knowledge of just how lucky they are and how different choices could have led them a VERY different path.

Unyielding Beacon

A final showdown with Set ends in disaster, as all of her efforts to try and save him for his son's (Psyche/Sike!) sake has resulted with a very public demise for the man. Through Astaver's manipulations, Ion's inability to save Set from his untimely death creates outcry in the community, to the point that the government calls Ion to stand on trial. While ultimately decreed "not guilty" by the court, Set's "death" results in a chain of events that lead Sike down the path of villainy and leaves Ion in disgrace and heartache, feeling like she has failed as a hero. However, as horrible as she feels, as hard of a hit this was to her, there's no way Ion could ever stay down, and her final comic stands as a testament to her never ending determination to help others. She'll never give up hope and so there's no way she's giving up on Psyche now. Rolling with the punches, Ion is back and here to save the day.

(These comics are named, with a hefty amount of credit to Miles! Trial by Fire: The final fight between Set and Ion, ultimately resulting in his death. Trial of Ion: In which the very public trial of Ion is held, resulting in Sike's disappointment, DD's manipulations, and Layla's influence. Trial and Error: Ion's return to the field and her battle with Psyche, now renamed Requiem, as she tries to save him from following the same footsteps of his father.)

Oblivaeon

Ion will be part of the fight, but currently doesn't have anything else big planned for the end of the multiverse as they know it. Good for her to have a free schedule for once.

Zero (Connar Zerker) [ ex-boyfriend ]

Ion's childhood best friend and old flame. Ion feels a great deal of regret about how her relationship with Zero ended, as she had broken up with him when his involvement with her and the Descendants began threatening his life and ultimately changing him into someone she didn't know. Now reunited after nearly two years, she's hoping to rekindle some sort of friendship with him, even though in her heart she's always been longing for more. She greatly admires his work as a hero and is very much willing to support him in any way she can.

Hecate (Mana Springshine) [ younger sister ]

Ion's younger sister. Ion greatly adores Hecate and admires the growth she's demonstrated over the years. While she wishes she wasn't so involved in such dangerous work, she is also happy to see how much happier Hecate seems to be interacting with various heroes. She trusts Hecate's judgement and will often turn to Hecate for support, in battle and out. That being said, she is fiercly protective of the younger girl, no matter how strong she gets, and Ion feels rather guilty for letting Adrestia get her hands on Hecate in the first place.

Gadgeteer (Hana Springshine) [ older sister ]

Ion's older sister. The relationship between Gadgeteer and Ion is quite strained, as Gadgeteer holds a lot of residual anger and bitterness towards Ion. Gadgeteer can't help but blame Ion for recommending Hecate go with Adrestia in the first place and she also hates that she was the only one to lose her magic to the Descendants, whereas Ion got away with her magic. This makes their relationship strained, as Ion feels that Hana's anger is well-deserved, as she also blames herself a lot for what has transpired in their family. That being said, Ion greatly cares for her, and even if Gadgeteer rarely outwardly shows it to her, the feeling is quite mutual.
