About

Vice is a sentient digital construct similar to that of a computer virus — when he's taking a digital form, that is. By default, Vice presents as a demon of pride well-versed in the workings of the internet. He's snarky, ill-tempered, and quick to let curses fly. Alongside that, he has a tough shell, with most insults and crude remarks registering as miserable jabs to him. Even so, his greatest weakness is himself. He holds a natural disdain for almost everyone he comes across, and even he isn't exempt from it. His own self-consciousness falters his pride and prevents him from feeding off of his own sin more often than he cares to admit.

Even though he has a crass demeanor and a hot temper, Vice can be surprisingly patient when he thinks the moment is right, but even more petty. He won't hesitate to make a big deal of small grievances. Additionally, he's very curious and calculating, being very observant of his environment and those he takes an interest in, always looking for a weakness to turn against someone.

Vice often refers to himself as being a demon. It isn't quite clear if he really is a demonic entity taking a digital form, or if he's simply a virus that plays up his role.

Dislikes

  • Being honest about "sappy" feelings
  • Messy computers
  • People messing with his tail

Flaws

  • Incredibly nosey
  • Puts in too much work for little reward
  • Self-conscious of his abilities

Hobbies

  • Making complex encryptions
  • Following the latest software trends
  • Sorting their favorite icons, files, etc

Design Notes

  • The liquid coming out of his neck can be drawn differently or not at all! If drawn, it can float upward to his head, flow out of his neck, or pool in the opening.
  • The liquid looks like oil slick. Pinks, greens, yellows, and blues can all be seen in it (or it can just be black).
  • His horns move up and down like ears, so feel free to draw them sticking any which way! Keep in mind that they always point backward though.
  • His black "clothes" are basically like a sleeveless bodysuit. It connects straight from his torso to his feet with no seams.
  • These "clothes" reflect light like leather, the light reflecting back blue (but it can be drawn white or not at all).
  • His arms and chest are fuzzy!
  • He has slightly broad shoulders and a tall frame while also being slim.
  • He has digitigrade legs.
  • His horns are always seperated into pieces. These pieces can be drawn in any shape, I just do the same ones for my convenience.
  • If he's drawn talking, his speech bubble is black with a blue outline and lightning bolt tail.

Trivia

  • He has an (undesigned) full demon form!
  • His voice is coated in a static-y electronic filter, like raw energy crackles in his voice.
  • He loves graphics cards, but his proximity to them fries them like an egg.
  • He spends a lot of time on the encryptions he makes.
  • He loves to devour microchips and RAM.
  • He disguises as mail notifications purely to read the mail, even making the PC think he's a default setting.
  • His tail is a functional mouse cursor and can pick up and drag things.
  • His eyes bluescreen or turn black when he has trouble thinking.
  • He likes to break down the CSS and code of websites and scripts and replace it with his own.
  • He enjoys the song Daisy Bell.
  • When he becomes flustered, his voice becomes slightly garbled.
  • It isn't clear if the liquid that leaks out of his neck has any purpose, but he doesn't like if people mess with it.
  • His attitude of arrogant pride is a false one, as he's actually very critical of his own abilities.
❤ Relationships ❤

TOMO piques Vice's curiosity, what with their being a self-developed man-made consciousness, and as such he views them as a fascinating experiment. He even holds some degree of respect for the virus for developing to the point that they have. Besides his curiosity, Vice loves to annoy them and sees them as somewhat of a pest. The way he displays this may hold more meaning than Vice cares to acknowledge, though.

To Vice, K@Z is "some strange little lines of code." He isn't too sure what to think of it but observes from afar due to his intense curiosity with how it functions as a virus. Despite not having any major ill intentions towards K@Z, he still likes to tease the latter and get on its nerves just to see what will happen.

Vice enjoys Gwyn's company, whether it's talking about vintage things from the 80s, trading questions back and forth, or wreaking havoc. He's intensely fascinated by them and how they function, and the fact Gwyn puts up with his nosiness and presence has earned them his patience and respect. Over time, he even learns how to express himself a little better thanks to their meetings.

Vice made their appearance during the height of the 1980s Satanic panic, causing mayhem in the developing minds and technology of the time. Taking advantage of the frenzy among the public consciousness, Vice would often cause heavy malfunctioning in technology to the point of rendering the device unusable. His actions further served to make people think their technology was possessed — and in a way, it was. This was also heavily influenced by the fact that he often used satanic imagery in his work. Vice's most iconic calling cards were the transformation of the loading circle mouse cursor into a pentagram — one that he could even appear out of if he so chose — paired with the gibberish Satanic text that denoted his presence. Vice's presentation and actions only helped to further fuel the mania at the time. It didn't help how his means of getting from computer to computer was by inserting "summoning text" encryptions into files online that, once downloaded, would give him free access to the PC.

--- Behavior ---

Vice is a wildcard of a virus, having unique ways of his own to inflict havoc upon computers and their users. One behavior is that he's been known to favor specific kinds of files to where he'll add them to a "stash" stored somewhere on the PC, removing them from the source and corrupting it as a side-effect. Along with this, Vice downloads files of his own and eventually takes up more and more space on the hard drive. He can even manage to fill the drive past capacity, much to the detriment of the computer itself.

Another behavior is that he'll send encrypted messages periodically through the PC visible even to the user. The messages are full of Satanic nonsense that looks right at home in a movie, but they're nigh impossible to decrypt. If they are decrypted, it can reverse Vice's effects and he'll even send a lighthearted popup message to the user before leaving. Sometimes he sends fake popups just for his own joy, providing false hope to the decrypter. Rarely, he leaves encrypted data behind when stealing files for his stash as a temporary "fix," with no real intention to fix anything. He just enjoys providing the computer with a slow corruption. Vice's ability extends to more than just encrypted messages as well, as he'll talk directly with the user on occasion. He'll input his own search results and plant damning images only to wave them in the user's face as if they're to blame. Framing people to be worse than they are isn't something below him.

If Vice wants to, he can even speak in the encryptions he writes. The speech shows up as visible text that appears on the PC and can overflow it if he decides to say too much. The text will appear on the desktop, in files, on images, or anything else visible to the user. He often makes the text appear where he knows the user is looking. The encrypted speech also works as a form of protection for him, causing virus defenders and the computer itself to be unable to recognize that he's a virus because of the speech providing a "barrier" around him.
