Rosestep was born into Riverclan alongside her sister Ottersky. Though they were close as kits, Rosestep's decision to become a medicine cat caused some distance between them. Rosestep grew close to her clanmate, Toadslip, and the two became mates.
After seeing Ottersky at the border with the Windclan deputy, Bumblebelly, Rosestep confronted her sister. Rosestep then revealed she was expecting kits, and begged Ottersky to raise them alongside her own litter. Ottersky, though hesitant, agreed.
After one of Ottersky's kits was injured in the river, she planned to take her kits to Windclan but was intercepted by Toadslip, who insisted she leave his kits behind. Ottersky reluctantly left, and Rosestep was forced to reveal herself as the mother of Toadslip's litter, as no one else could nurse them. Rosestep quickly decided to bring her kits to live with Ottersky and their littermates in Windclan, and now resides in Windclan's medicine cat den.
Rosestep is a plump she-cat with rounded ears and big paws.
