He is very "booksmart" and succeeds at academics (particularly mathematics) but his very sheltered upbringing makes him struggle using his intelligence for practical purposes. Very Naïve, friendly, an open book with his emotions. 

When his parents suggest to Mylan that he should get married, and that they even picked out a girl for him. He gets angry and "runs away". A pampered son of a noble family, Mylan is quickly picked out by his fine clothing a finds himself being mugged. He is rescued by a member of the city guard, and Mylan realizes quite happily that it is his childhood best friend who he hasn't seen in years, Othris. He convinces Othris to let him stay with him for the time being.
