About

Deep in the Tangled Forest, hidden by enchanted plants, lies a stunning settlement called Musicbox Sanctuary. Giselle lives a quiet but fulfilling life within, tending to her greenhouse and the tiny village around her cottage home. Once a professor and an academic at heart, Giselle loves to teach and study magic; she wants to be a guiding light, pass on her knowledge to the next generation, and gather knowledge herself. She jumps (although gently) at the chance to learn something new and deeply loves both tracks she's chosen to wield. Plants and music mean a lot to her; her personality reflects that; Giselle is gentle, kind, and soft-spoken. She believes strongly in fate and the will of the universe, often stating that "what is is what must be" during hard times. She always tries to see every side of a situation and (in most cases) forgives easily.

She is the founder and head of the Musicbox Sanctuary, a settlement she founded from the hideaway she and her nephew made whilst escaping the grasp of the Eclipse Coven. Being a very motherly figure, she welcomes all that make their way to the settlement and looks after its existing residents. She considers the sanctuary's permanent residents her family and loves each member wholeheartedly. Aesthetically, Giselle loves beautiful, lightly coloured things- especially glass, which gives the plants she grows with her magic their blue, pink, purple, and white colours. Finding "glass" flowers and other plants is a good sign that she's nearby (or at least been there), and her greenhouse is full of unique vegetation with the same sheen.

Giselle speaks very softly and tends to pause between words, and she can often trail off, which causes a lot of ellipses to appear in her dialogue. It's exceedingly rare to hear her raise her voice or use overly negative words- to the point where hearing such things from her can be frightening. Even her "yelling" is often whispery and restrained. If you hear her shriek or yell, something awful or terrifying has happened. She constantly worries about using words that are too harsh and has trouble even using the word "dissapointed" over "really really really not happy with you" and the like. As a direct opposite of her nephew, she uses far fewer contractions, preferring to say the whole thing (EX: "could not" instead of "couldn't") and speak formally in general.

The Eclipsing

When the Eclipse Coven became aggressive with their enforcement of the coven system (affectionately referred to as "The Eclipsing"), Giselle grew worried, and her faith as the head witch of the Bard Coven grew shaky. Fearing her free will may soon be taken from her, she forfeited her role as a head witch and left before a sigil could be put on her wrist. She fled the state with her nephew to the far east corner of the WhaleFall Continent and hid within the Tangled Forest at his suggestion. Giselle left behind a single music box with a recorded message for her students- explaining the circumstances and urging them to keep exploring all aspects of magic for as long as possible. That was the last anyone had seen of her.

With Adam's help, the small branch of the Sucre family made a clearing and built their homes in the centre of the Tangled Forest. Using the forest itself and its creatures for protection, the two have stayed relatively safe...although, it took some time for Giselle to gather her courage and venture outside their home again.

Post-Eclipsing (present)

After a few years of living with Adam alone, Giselle considered converting their clearing into more than a hidden home. They had the magic, space, and resources to help others if needed; with Adam's help, what was once two houses became a greenhouse, a small farm, and plenty of space in their personal clearing within the forest. However, they're still just in the woods (although in a hard-to-reach area), and walking deep enough into it will bring you there - causing some travellers to accidentally walk into it. Though Giselle herself is always welcoming and doesn't think much of it, her nephew wants to prevent this as much as possible. He has set up surveillance systems via beast-keeping magic and patrolling the shallower parts of the forest whenever he isn't busy.

With the addition of two extra permanent residents, the hide-away has been converted into a sanctuary, with 4 houses instead of the original two and additional buildings specifically for bringing the party together. This includes an outdoor dining table and a practice "arena" on the grounds. Currently, the sanctuary mostly gets its money from completing odd jobs, such as bounty-hunting, supply runs, and rescue missions. Aside from this, the sanctuary's reputation also travels by word-of-mouth, and they often temporarily house or help those who seek them out. Whether it just be shelter, or something more direct in the "quest" sort of sense, Giselle always urges the party members to lend a hand where they can.

Giselle also continues teaching the residents magic, or at least helping them study and spends her free time writing a book on dual magic. Her current academic interests align with the possibilities of dual-track magic specifically and how majoring in two tracks simultaneously can create uniquely trained results. For this, she has dubbed the sanctuary residents unofficially as being in the "Dual-wielding Coven", regardless of whether they actually practice 2 tracks. She might just miss the title of being a coven head.

Design Notes
  • Most if not all of Giselle's clothing has an open back, to accomodate her wide wings. The wings taper at the base and connect near her shoulders.
  • Giselle's ears are "replaced" by a second set of butterfly wings- which flutter and emote. they nearly match her actual wings, and tend to flutter when she's happy or excited.
  • The white spots under her eyes are natural and not makeup. Though, she does put on "nude" styled make up every now and again.
  • Giselle's hair is partially tied up in the red bow she has on her head. when let down, her hair drapes just past her shoulders.
  • her hair isn't actually black-- it's a light blue. However, it's greyed out over the years and she dyes it to cover up the white strips of hair.
  • More often than not, she is wearing gloves. It's a comfort for her.
Trivia
  • Giselle is in the 5th generation of a tribrid family tree! Her ancestors were a bug and biped demon, who's children had families with witches. Her family is full of witches with flying insect qualities.
  • Giselle's Voiceclaim is Julie Andrews- particularly in Mary Poppins and The Sound Of Music.
  • Her palisman is a "petalfly" named Nua. She named it after the noise it makes. She awoke her palisman by expressing her greatest wish to it; to have a family she can love for all of eternity.
  • Nua hatched from a palisman carved into the shape of a cocoon-- a tradition for witches in the Sucre family.
  • Though she wants desperately to be a mother, Giselle has historically been unable to bear children. She hates being reminded of that fact.
  • Due to the cold making Adam hibernate, she gets lonely in the winter. To counteract this, she has spent an innordinate amount of snails on keeping him awake and warm.
