God-Meddled oracle of time, Irnie’s body is often imbued with more magic than it can handle. Irnie had a less fortunate upbringing than his friend Bert, losing his family to “Planks” much earlier in life. The two of them bonded in their loss and ran amuck on a sea outpost called “Fyrestone” towards the southern side of the Bronze Sea. Irnie always had peculiar arcane phenomena, but nothing that couldn’t be chalked up to a young sorcerer not understanding his powers. That was until a bewildering Arcane Anomaly found their way to the Bronze Sea and disrupted their magic. Irnie was plagued with constant nightmares, and fluxes in magic. One night Irnie had a nightmare about a horrific storm destroying the Fyrestone harbor. It was so bad he couldn’t stop crying. It filled him with an immense sense of loss and fear that he and Bert decided to make preparations to leave Fyrestone. They were paranoid that they were going to be captured and experimented on if the New Leaf National Guard found them, so this dream was as good a sign as any to leave their home. The next day the dream came true.
With magic seemingly forsaken by the gods themselves, Irnie continues to struggle to control his powers. “Blessed” with the discovery of time, glimpses of control only seem to irradiate out whenever something is lost or forgotten.
After Irnie’s prophecy came true, Bert and Irnie found their rowboat being crushed under the haul of the Party’s ship, and were forced to assimilate into the Crew. Bert blended easily, but Irnie had some trouble. There was something about this ragtag group that had an affinity for setting Irnie’s magic off. Despite Terren doing her best to help Irnie, things only seemed to get worse. Eventually Watermelon unknowingly imbued them with abjuration magic and gave them the title “The Protector”, prompting Irnie to develop a strong sense of responsibility for the Crew. Since Watermelon proclaiming themself as the god of “Protecting the Weak”, Irnie has become their sole disciple.
