Tabia was a low ranking Jiwe clan female, who was unpopular with the Kamili and her advisors, regarded as a killjoy and a dork for her mild nature. Tabia is also tall for a hyena, so while they would never admit it, they also resented her for that, going out of their way to make her feel small. She was not a flighty hyena, but still feared punishment and only voiced her discontentment in hushed whispers. She was a calm and skilled member of the clan, and very talented at finishing hunts. Tabia coddled her son, Bakari, and everything he knows about patience and kindness he learned from his mother. He remembers very little of her words and lessons, but he still subconsciously managed to hold onto them.

Tabia was close with her father, Jabori, who was considered odd for stepping up when Tabia lost her mother at a young age. As resources were short, she struggled against her older, stronger clanmates for scraps of food until Jabori began to watch over and provide for her. When Bakari lost his mother, Jabori cared for him as well, but as he was wounded and aging, Oyana's mother took on most of the care in his stead.

Tabia was not monogamous and had several flings in her life and a few children, though only Bakari stayed with the clan.
