“I WALK  THIS WORLD TO BRING UPON THE SOULS’ JUDGMENT.”

A dark knight, once a knight of justice and aid, Janik was raised from the brink of death to commune with spirits and haunt the land to deliver vengeance , judgment and death.

Tall, dark and silent, barely makes any noise even in armor, perhaps due to partial incorporality. This knight prefers to bide his time and listen to those around him, to the whispers of the ghosts, to their wants and desires . When the time is right his blade draws to cut down those deserving of a cold, lonely grave.

Personality

Serious | Quiet | Relaxed | Confident | Persistent | Malicious | Rigid | Unpredictable

Generally quiet and serious, Janik prefers to listen and watch versus speaking, that’s reserved for his spirit acquaintances. May seem troubled but is often relaxed and calm even in stressful situations such as monster attacks.

Janik is confident in both his own abilities and that of his ghost companions and what he asks of them. Some may stray from his intentions but he sees the job will get done. He is persistent in what he sets out to do, and setbacks do not faze him. It’s just another challenge to defeat.

Due to his upbringing as a knight, and his ‘death’ and ‘revival’, Janik is often seen as uncaring or rigid, he has his set code, one he may or may not share and seems unyielding once he makes a determination of his actions. His ruthlessness in carrying out his tasks can make him seem malicious and cruel, as the hows and whys don’t generally matter, he seeks what is worthy of his aid, whether its for good or bad intentions by the requester. However he does draw the line at murder of children and animals.

Should he determine that the death of a target is for the best of the general populace or local, then he will hunt them until they are no more. Traps and other trickery are not above him, and may often act in unpredictable ways such as feigning aid or friendliness to meet his goal.

History

Born in an unremarkable snowy mountain village north of Siregal, Janik was a resin farmer's son and as soon as they could walk they aspired to join the ranks of the local knights they’d be told about by their mother. She was a retired knight herself, thanks to a leg injury when fending off monsters and settled in the quiet town to raise Janik and enjoy her life with her husband. Janik learned most of his survival skills in the wilderness from his father, taking a liking to seclusion and wilderness, and they learned to read and write from their mother, along with skills in sword fighting, hunting and traits of monsters.

Janik’s life was generally calm and consistent, the young man enlisting with the knights guild as soon as he was able, quickly moving up the ranks from squire to fledged knight at an early age. From there Janik took jobs assisting anyone who needed in, traveling from his little mountain home to the southern reaches of Siregal and Ivras with the knowledge and teachings of his mother and fellow knights. He acted as a mercenary knight for a good while, until he took a job that pitted him against some ‘corrupted’ mage leaders of his home kingdom. He was fooled and like a fool he died after the deed was done, killed by the very people who hired him. Or so they thought. Janik arose from the heap of corpses with a still heart and surrounded by specters.

He wasn’t unfamiliar with magic, but he suspected his own had manifested in an odd manner, pulling his soul to his battered body and bringing life to his cold form. Though now he appeared corpselike, and despite his efforts or how much he moved his stiff limbs the color never returned. The knight found he could also hear the whispers of the ghosts around him, begging for form and to walk amongst the living.. There were plenty of bones and armors strewn about in the pile so with a simple nod the ghosts took what they desired, roaming as skeletal creatures, empty armors, golems..  trailing their dark knight until they found peace and departed. Concerned that some of these departed meant ill will, and of his own ghastly appearance, Janik spent several years off on his own, learning what new abilities the deities had gifted and coming to terms with his own fate.

It was time to see the world, enact judgment for the lost souls and against the corrupted, to help those who needed it..and perhaps find his own revenge.

Corruption00

Able to see and control ghosts and apparitions by imbuing them to objects such as armors, weapons, skeletons, or bringing a recently dead corpse into undead with its own soul or that of a stray spirit. The souls used can either be lingering in the area, visible only to those who see apparitions, or from the afterlife.

In places such as graveyards, battlegrounds, or haunted locations it is far easier to pull a soul. Despite this ability to grant the want of living to specters, some may not be willing to aid and many others use this revival to enact their own vendettas. Friendly souls may not wish to aid in anything that brings harm, and often Janik seeks out those of gray morality to complete his command or cuts deals with the souls to bring about their passing or last wishes in exchange for their aid.

-When using magic to pull souls or command his ghastly objects, Janik’s own appearance becomes more spectral, with wild hair and transparent body, bones may be visible.

- Sometimes can be seen speaking to himself, when in reality he speaks more to ghosts than the living.

-May be able to control the souls of those he slays with greater ease, but Janik often is conflicted on the morality of using the souls of his victims, whether they were corrupt or not.

At greater power Janik may control more animated objects, armors or corpses .

With greater discipline, Janik can create more powerful animated objects to aid him and have more control over the spirits actions.

His magic when in use may allow him to traverse the world as the souls do, without corporeality.
