Dai was born in a poor, but loving family in Japan. They barely had money to survive, so Dai had to grow up very quickly to help his family. Eventually, his father got a sudden offer to work in Night City, since he was well educated in research field. The family imediately agreed to the offer and all 3 of them emigrated to the USA. This is where Dai grew up, but never forgot his origins and missed Japan every day.
During his stay in Night City, Dai got interested in cold steel including knives and katanas. In his free time he used to exercise a lot with throwing kitchen knives and jumping around with sticks imitating katanas. Eventually he mastered the art of swordfights and his father gifted him his very first katana, so he could fulfill his dream. Soon enough when he was still a teenager Dai was observed by Tyger Claws. Impressed by his abilities and reflex he got an offer to join the gang. This wasn't received well by his parents, which worsened their relationship. Dai decided to live his life his own way and now he is a well known, invincible swordmaster who only the bravest dare to challenge.
Dai is a very wholesome and caring person, always ready to help anyone in need. Despite being a member of Tyger Claws, he can be very soft and often acts on his own. Dai lacks physical touch so he is always ready to hug anyone that agrees to it. Even though he is very soft and calm, Dai has severe anger issues and get mads pretty quickly. His mood can change from a loving brother into a cold killing machine that won't hesitate to cut someones head off. He often comes back home covered in blood and acts as if nothing happened. He often dissociates to forget about all the murders he did during his rage episodes.

Dai used to observe and follow Yukio quite a lot during his stays in Cloud, which is one of the Tyger Claws bases. He was so charmed by this neko-doll that he eventually decided to become his client often coming back to him after missions to calm himself down. After some time passed and Dai managed to make friends with Yukio outside his room he decided to protect him at all cost. One day Yukio called him to report that he got harmed by one of his clients. Dai was filled with rage, he took Yukio home to take care of him and in the meantime found the perpetrator and murdered him with cold blood. After Yukios stay at his apartment they eventually kissed and decided to try being in a relationship.
Pepe is Dais enemy and friend at the same time. He often visits him in his workshop only to annoy and argue with him. Even though they both get annoyed they enjoy their time together. They often fight on who is a better fighter and argue about their weapon of choice, since Dai thinks that guns are not a weapon for true honorary samurai, and only a weapon for cowards.
Carr is Pepes adopted child, so Dai often hangs out with them in Pepes workshop. He cares about Carr and acts almost like a good uncle that lets his niece do things her father forbids. When she is hurt or in danger he is very worried about her, always ready to join friends in a mission to save her, or even sings her some Japaneese lullabies to calm her down.
After an incident involving Ash and Carr, Dai and Ash became closer. Dai promised to protect Carr and make sure Ash attends therapy to work on themself. This way when they got to know each other more, Dai decided to introduce Ash to Tyger Claws and train them like other rookies. Ash often calls Dai their uncle which flatters him. Dai tries to focus on good sides of people so he never gave up on Ash.
His close friend and informator from Arasaka. Ryo often visits Dai to drink tea with him and exchange information that can help both Tyger Claws and Arasaka. Ryo often annoys Dai especially when he enters his flat uninvited through his window, but that doesn't stop them from seeing each other.
