Backstory:

Mephisto was abandoned by his parents shortly after being born, though someone took pity on the little baby otter and decided to take it with themselves, taking care of him and providing him with a loving home instead.

The small otter's life was littered all through out with cruel tests and hardships that he had to overcome all by himself. The people he met excluded and ridiculed him, treated him like he belonged to a lowlier class of society that didn't even deserve to be considered a living thing, a person. He wasn't human,F so he didn't deserve to be treated humanely..right? Mephisto tried everything and with all his might to fit in, as he thought the problem lied with him and he had to change. A huge amount of trial and error went into him learning to speak, because even if he looked like one, he surely wasn't as dumb as an animal. To appear more human, to fit in, the otter forced himself to act against his own nature, ultimately learning to walk on two legs. He didn't reckon it being that painful, since after all, his bone structure wasn't made to move like a human - but Mepisto ignored all his suffering in order to convince the humans that he was worth just as much as them, even dressed like them. But deep inside he knew, he knew that it was wrong. They were wrong.
