“I didn't become a knight to make friends.”

As the daughter of a family of knights, Caspar always thought that she too could become one. However, the more years passed, the more she realized that it was impossible. To them, a woman could never be a knight.
Upon discovering that she was to be married, Caspar decided to make a new life for herself - as a man. She took upon the name of Caspar, the name of an ancestor in the family, and got as far away as she could.
After years of struggle, she was accepted into a knightly order on skills alone, fulfilling her dream. After a few years like that, she is tasked with the role of the retainer to the Crown Prince - she dreads going back into noble society again.

Keeping everyone at a distance at all times, Cas is highly vigilant about maintaing her secret, knowing that telling anyone could spell the downfall of everything she has built up. This manifests as a generally unfriendly, nasty and cold attitude towards everyone.
Deep down, she really isn't like that; but she feels it's a necessity. Nothing manages to stir that resolve whatsoever until she meets Alex, and it's like everything falls apart for her. There is something to him, and she has to find out, even as it threatens to destroy her.

The Crown Prince. At first, Cas was not too excited about the idea of meeting him, but it is as if all that goes away when they first lay eyes on one another - she can't help but want to figure out what causes her to feel this way.
She is often frustrated by his utter inability to stand up for himself - and sets about trying to teach him to get more confident.

A renowned knight and leader of the Order of the Moon. He is a knight with a storied history, and he took Caspar under his wing after seeing her display her skill.
He doesn't feel any animosity towards her, and doesn't intend to use his information of her dark past against her, but Cas never quite came to trust him on that, and so, she fears him. His intentions for picking Cas for the position as retainer are unclear.
