- while the fungus infects both sexes, the infection is most often successful with females. the reason for this is not known, but it has led to the common perception of skogsrå all being female.

- they create tools and their own clothes like humans do, very elaborate as well. their clothing tends to resemble traditional/ceremonial clothes from the local humans - this may be because while the skogsrå are separate individuals from the host that dies during the infection, they retain some of the knowledge from them, both from observation when growing in the host's body and literal consumption of their brain.

- the fungus requires food and can feed off of most organic material. skogsrå tend to have a preference for energy-dense foods, like meats, fats and sugar. unlike humans, they do not require their food to be cooked, but they still seem to enjoy the prospect of making their food taste good and utilize herbs and spices.

- in terms of colour and markings, they can vary a bit, however they always remain warm colours, often with yellow/orange undertones. their "fur" doesn't usually get too dark, however they can have darker spots and/or markings. a very common marking is a darker spot on the back.
