Chiharu is the youngest of Ran and Koki's children. She spends her childhood running around the Great Marsh with her older brothers but doesn't quite take to Pokemon as much as them. One day at home, she gets tired of watching one of her father's matches and flips to a different channel; the battle she lands on features Glacia of the Hoenn Elite Four. Chiharu is enamored with the ice-type Pokémon on display, particularly Glalie, and after the match, she instantly begins researching how to get Glalie as a Pokémon partner. To her surprise, the large, fearsome Pokémon evolved from a tiny little triangle. This only makes her want Glalie more.
When Chiharu turns of age, both Jun and Mamoru take her to Shoal Cave to catch her very own Pokémon: a Snorunt. One particular Snorunt spies on the group when they enter the cave and ends up following them inside. His giggles echo through the cavern and lets them know he is there, but they aren't able to find him right away. When they finally do, Chiharu engages him in battle and secures the catch. She gives him the name "Echo" because of it.
Chiharu decides to build the remainder of her team that follows the same theme: Pokémon who look unassuming but are hard hitters.
Personality
Chiharu is the most mischievous of her siblings. She loves adventure and fun, just like her mother, but takes after her father in terms of strategy. She is wily and strong willed and is always looking for chinks in the armor. She adores her Pokemon team and is steadfastly loyal to those she cares about.

Childhood
Chiharu happily grows up in Pastoria City. She and her brothers often go to the Great Marsh to poke around for little adventures, and sometimes take trips to the nearby Safari Zone for fun. On weekends, she travels with her family to the Sinnoh League to watch her father battle.
She has a mild interest in Pokemon and becoming a trainer but doesn't quite have the same drive as her siblings, having been over saturated from watching her parents. This all changes when she sets her eyes on Glacia's Glalie. After that, Chiharu cannot wait to become a trainer. She watches as first Mamoru and then Jun go off on their adventures, counting down the days until it is her turn.
Early Teens
Chiharu's first traveling companion is none other than her brother Jun. They travel from region to region, first to Galar, then to Hoenn, never staying in once place for too long. While they are in Hoenn, Jun finds a Sail Fossil and gifts it to Chiharu. She has it regenerated into Coral, her Amaura. They travel together for several years, sometimes meeting up with Mamoru for brief periods of time, until Chiharu turns sixteen.
Later Teenage Years
Having grown tired of bouncing around, Chiharu confesses to Jun in a tear-filled conversation that she wants to try traveling on her own for a bit. They journey to Icirrus City where they plan to officially part ways. There they meet Lysander Law.
Chiharu is at first unimpressed with Lysander and his cold, blunt nature. She agrees to help him out of a situation and figures she'll never run into him again. She says goodbye to her brother and sets off on her own. Much to her displeasure, she runs into Lysander a few more times around the Unova region. Slowly her dislike turns into begrudging respect, to friendship, and then into more. By eighteen, she and Lysander are traveling around together as one.
Adult
Chiharu and Lysander continue their relationship and their travels into early adulthood. They pick up and drop other traveling companions here and there, including Chiharu's brothers, but their only permanent companions are each other. Both of them enjoy the adventure and excitement and do not have official plans to slow down. The birth of Mamoru's first child makes them stop and re-evaluate.

Chiharu and Jun are like two peas in a pod. As they are only about a year and a half apart in age, they grow up closely together. When Jun turns 10 and goes off on his adventure, Chiharu cries for days.
