Hatter was born...somewhere. A location unknown by him or anyone else. At the age of five his portal opening powers manifested themselves and he found himself winding up in a whole different dimension where he was eventually found by a family who brought him in and tried to raise him...at least until he accidentally opened up a portal and wound up leaving the family. This continued until he was seven years old and he was able to control his powers and be able to open up portals when he actually wanted to. During this time, he happened to open up a portal that led him to a dimension that contained a world where there existed the United Kingdoms of Organia. He wound up specifically on the prison island of that world known as Exile. There, he met a young girl two years his junior who would become his best friend and travelling companion: Marcie Haire.

Hatter rescued her from that island and from that moment on, Hatter no longer traveled alone. As the years went on, Hatter became even more skillful with his powers, but was still unable to control where the portals opened up to. Hatter's gallivanting about with no purpose essentially came to an end when Marcie revealed to him that she was half-demon and was afraid that the demon part of her would eventually take over and she wouldn't be herself anymore. This revelation led Hatter to want to help Marcie, he resolved to find a dimension where demons did not exist in the hopes that introducing Marcie to such a place would cause her demon blood to completely disappear. However, due to the nature of his powers, this is done at a leisurely pace.

Throughout his travels, Hatter usually goes about his time in each dimension as a child on a field trip and just has fun, trying his very best to avoid getting tangled up in the affairs of others within the dimension that he is visiting, however there have been several instances in which he has meddled in the affairs of other people, usually in an attempt to help them. In the case of very mean people, Hatter will certainly not be afraid to mess around with them by doing various mischievious things, which usually involves harmless pranks or teach them a lesson.
