Siobhan Branwen Llewellyn, also known as Shevon Wildheart is the deuteragonist of A Tale of Dragons and Thunder. She first appears in The Forgotten Empire.

She is the daughter of the god Ilmarinen and Enid Wildheart, adoptive daughter of High Queen Rhiannon Wavescale, half-sister of the goddess Nia, and adoptive sister of Emrys Wavescale and Eirian Lightfoot. She is a member of the Wildheart Clan and the Council of Druids.

She eventually discards her titles and any claims she holds to Aleratha due to being adopted into the family. Later on, she marries Runa Stormblood and together they have four children—Freya, Frei, Owain, and Ninian.

Personality

Shevon is not the friendliest of people. In fact, the complete opposite could be said of her. She doesn't bother trying to hide her dislike of people—especially humans. She is extremely aloof, preferring to keep her distance and not form attachments. When she does interact with others, she can be incredibly snarky and brutally honest. Her bluntness easily makes her come off as rude and insensitive—and to a certain extent, those words can be used to describe her. She sees no point in frivolity or facades. She won't hide her true self just to avoid insulting someone.

Shevon's unfriendliness is often influenced by her moods. Shevon is nearly perpetually grumpy. She seems to always find something to disdain. She doesn't bother hiding her negative feelings, but she keeps her more positive ones to herself. She doesn't like showing those kinds of feelings to others, which pushes her to behave surly. Whether it is out of fear of showing weakness or allowing others to find ways to manipulate her, even she does not know.

Despite this, Shevon is an individual who deeply cares about those who do gain her trust. She is very slow to accept others, but isn't completely unwilling to be cooperative; she'll just complain about it. But once she decides she can put her faith in you, you have an ally for life. Shevon only truly cares about her loved ones—those she considers her family. She would do absolutely anything for them, including letting the world fall apart, if it meant she could keep them safe. She cares little of the problems of others. Why should she go out of her way to help a total stranger? She is quite selfish in this way, and is very aware of it.

Though she has a general dislike of people, Shevon is an incredibly intuitive person. She can easily be described to being 'in tune with nature' and gives her incredible insight on others. She can read others very easily. It is very, very difficult to hide your emotions or motives from her. Because of this, she often acts on instict. She follows her gut and trusts her intuition more than her mind... which is an interesting oxymoron for someone so logical and pragmatic.

Shevon's biggest secret is, perhaps, that she does care. A lot. Whether she'd like to admit it or not. Having lost so many loved ones over the years, her biggest fear may just be abandonment, though she cannot say for sure. This is why she hates getting attached. She is reluctant to call anyone a friend, to acknowledge her attachment and how she cares for them. Though her bad-tempered nature may seem to overcome her more positive traits, such as her loyalty and determination, Shevon is a good person, deep down... though she may not believe this is true.

Shevon is tall for a young elven woman. Despite her age, she is only in her early twenties physically. She is built surprisingly sturdy for an elf, having a heavier bone structure than most of her kin. Regardless, she is still athletically lean, having excellent dexterity and speed. However, her stockier build does give her a curvaceous figure, with an impressive bust. Shevon moves with silent grace, reminiscent of a predator on the prowl. While she is quite skilled in making herself unnoticeable, she knows how to command attention if needed.

Shevon has long, thick, elegantly curly black hair that goes all the way down to her waist, her bangs curling down to her chin, parted to the right. She usually wears it braided off to the side. Her skin is a warm brown shade, splashed with even darker freckles over her cheeks, shoulders, elbows, and knees. Her freckles are practically everywhere, more and more appearing as she tans. She has a few scars, earned from training or exploring nature. Her eyes are a brilliant shade of emerald green. As she is an elf, her ears are long and pointed.

Most of Shevon's scars have faded with time, over the decades she's lived. However, there is one particular scar that stands out among the rest. It is on her back, going from her left shoulder, all the way down to her right hip.

When it comes to clothing, Shevon prioritizes comfort and practicality above all else. Like most elves, she prefers to wear as little clothing as possible. Unfortunately, this is not easy to get away with. Her fashion sense also varies greatly depending on where she is. If she is in Aleratha, she can be found in nothing but a bandeau and shorts, if anything at all. However, on the mortal plane, she usually wears tunics, vests, trousers, and boots, adding on more layers as the weather gets colder. She avoids dressing up at all costs.

Notes
  • Shevon's fringe falls to her right.
  • Shevon mostly wears her hair braided off to the side, with her bangs parted to the side. She only ever wears it down for formal occasions, usually with crown braids. At one point, she cuts her hair to a bob, but later she grows it back out. It's even curlier when short.
  • Shevon is covered in freckles! She mostly has them on her cheekbones and joints, like her shoulders, elbows, and knees. But other less concentrated freckles can be found almost anywhere.
  • Shevon prefers to wear as little clothing as possible, if the weather permits. Because of this, please keep note of the prominent scar on her back: it arches from her left shoulder to her right hip.

Divine Spark

As a Godborn, Shevon has the potential to become a goddess in her own right. Unfortunately, that requires followers. This grants her immortality, though she still can be killed.

Seelie-Blooded

As the daughter of the god Ilmarinen and denizen of Aleratha, Shevon's essence is purely magical. This enhances her magical abilities, making them more powerful.

Beastshape

Shevon inherited her clan's ability to shapeshift into the form of any animal they have studied.

Nature Magic

Shevon inherited the ability to manipulate nature from her mother, who was a druid.

History

Shevon was born to Enid Wildheart, the daughter of Loegaire Wildheart of the Council of Druids, and his wife Niamh. Born Siobhan, she adopted a 'humanized' spelling later on in her life. While having a child out of wedlock was not frowned upon in elven culture, Enid claimed that the father of her daughter was the god of the elves, Ilmarinen. She was scoffed at and ridiculed by most, but her parents, and family friend Queen Rhiannon, believed her. Enid had long spoken of the man she had fallen in love with. And no mortal druid would be able to turn into a kitten at barely one year of age.

Early Childhood & the Niraellean-Taeneian War

Shevon spent the first 50 years of her life with her mother and grandparents, learning the basics of how to control her magic due to such premature signs. Her early years were happy, regardless. She was a cheerful, friendly child, if not a bit mischievous. She lived on the mortal plane, in Taeneia, but frequently visited Aleratha, as her grandparents and Queen Rhiannon, her mother's close friend, lived there.

Unfortunately, all of that changed when the Niraellean-Taeneian War began when she was only a few years past 50 (the equivalent of 5 human years). Her mother left to serve King Gwydion in the war, leaving Shevon at home in Taeneia with her grandparents. The war lasted for the next 20 years, which only felt like two years for the elves. But in the last year of the war, King Gwydion was slain by King Valdas of Niraelle. Her mother perished at the King's side.

Adoption Into the House of Water

Orphaned, Shevon would have stayed with her grandparents. But Queen Rhiannon, grieved by the loss of her husband and dear friend, insisted on adopting the girl. And so Shevon was adopted into the House of Water—much to the chagrin of her now adoptive brother, Prince Emrys. This adoption was not well received by the people, due to the large amount of orphans in the aftermath of the war. Very few accepted her as their princess. This, coupled with the shock of losing her mother and the drastic shift in her life, did not make her transition into the royal family very easy.

Life As A Princess

The next 30 years were difficult for Shevon, as she slowly adjusted to her new life. Emrys did not accept her as his sister, which caused them to clash frequently. They were almost always at odds. She would often escape to her grandparents' home to get away from all of the conflict. She continued to study magic under her grandfather, who declared her his successor on the Council of Druids. But regardless of her issues with her adoptive family, Shevon grew close to Rhiannon and began to see her as a second mother. The Queen seemed to have high hopes for her.

The Cyriacan Invasion

Once again, war would drastically change Shevon's life. Though the Cyraican Invasion had no direct threat to Aleratha, the King of Niraelle called upon their alliance. The very day that Rhiannon pledged to send troops to aid the humans, Shevon got into a horrible argument with Emrys. Her brother's hurtful words pushed Shevon to run away, wanting nothing more to do with the royal family. She stowed away in one of the caravans heading to Niraelle. She was discovered by King Valkan, who decided it was too dangerous to send her home, and gave her a place to stay in the palace.

Despite how unhappy Shevon was, Princess Runa, Valkan's daughter, seemed unfazed by this and made it her life's goal to befriend her. She was relentless, and didn't give up, even when Shevon was truly awful and hostile to her. Her kindness would eventually wear down Shevon, and the two girls became close friends. So close that some nobles began to jokingly call them sisters, which irritated Shevon. To her, they were not like sisters. They were something more.

Unfortunately, the life that finally made Shevon happy would be stolen from her. Cyriaca marched on Fairmount, the capital of Niraelle. The city fell, and the House of Thunder was slaughtered like pigs. She was powerless to protect Runa, who was mortally wounded. Valkan managed to get both of the girls out of the palace, but not before Morgana, the occult advisor, turned on them and cursed Runa. And everything... everything that hurt Runa hurt her too.

Aftermath & Leaving Aleratha

Shevon never expected her return to Aleratha to be like this. She barely could react to any more devastation. Rhiannon, her grandfather, nor anyone else on the Council, could break the curse tormenting her friend. All she could do was sit by Runa's bedside and pray to her father to save the girl who had come to mean so much to her. But he never answered.

Another 50 years passed. Shevon grew more jaded as Runa continued to suffer. As she grew older, she focused on her training. It was the only thing that could keep her mind off the emotional pain. She trained and studied and grew at rates that no mortal should have been able to. And then Rhiannon gave her an opportunity: go out onto the mortal plane and spy, searching for clues regarding the Cult of Zir. Rhiannon told her everything about the Cult, but Shevon only accepted the offer when the queen mentioned how it threatened Runa. Thus Shevon left Aleratha, only returning sparingly to report her findings over the next five decades. She learned much about the world.

Shevon returned to learn that Runa had been awoken, the curse broken, and sent to live with Otieno, in the small town of Forestgate in Niraelle. Rhiannon asked Shevon to keep an eye on her... and to protect her, if needed. For the next decade, Shevon would do so. Though the elven woman was rarely seen, a green-eyed raven could be found instead. Having vowed to protect Runa at all costs, including her own happiness, Shevon blows her cover when Runa is attacked by the princess of the Unseelie Court.
