"Are you coming to TEMPLE WITH DINOSAURS?"

- One of Lysander's many failed attempts to entice youngsters to his temple.
Lysander Nestorakis (12 AGE - ) is the high priest of New Atlantis. He is commonly known by the nickname 'Andy'.

Appearance

In his youth, Lysander bore some resemblance to his father, Nestor, owing to his sky-blue skin and his full beard and moustache. However, his hair was jet-black in colour (as opposed to his father's sapphire-blue), and he never wore any military uniforms (instead opting for regal robes made out of green seaweed).

Nowadays, Lysander still has his beard and moustache - but the rest of his hair is cut shorter than it was previously. Furthermore, he usually wears a lengthy white cloak with a conch shell necklace, as is typical of a Novoatlantean priest.

Personality

In his early years, Lysander was never disciplined by his parents for his wrongdoing. As a result, he simply did whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted, wherever he wanted - with no regard for other people. When this selfish attitude began to cause problems, his father made harsh attempts to rein it in - but this aggressiveness simply rubbed off on Lysander, who himself became increasingly hostile towards others.

These days, Lysander has finally overcome his childhood habits - and become much more subdued in his demeanour. However, he does still come off as eccentric - and he never did develop an adult's social skills.

Relationships

Nestor - Nestor's father, and predecessor as Duke of New Atlantis. Lysander was his first child - and therefore, he made numerous parenting mistakes with him, leading him to grow into a troublesome toddler. Lysander never managed to shake these early habits - and therefore, Nestor came to view him as a disappointment, especially after his younger sisters, Aliana and Meriandra, had more successful upbringings. Nestor did reluctantly allow Lysander to inherit the throne of New Atlantis, as he was the eldest child - but after only two years, Nestor overthrew him, so that Aliana could take the throne instead. Consequently, Lysander and his father are no longer on speaking terms.

Aliana - The older brother of Lysander's two little sisters. During their childhood years, they fought and teased each other (as brothers and sisters tend to to), but still cared deeply for one another. However, When Aliana was 19 years old, he forced Nestor to step aside as Duke of New Atlantis, due to his unpopularity and lack of interest in the non-military aspects of the role. As part of the deal, Nestor arranged for Aliana to have a small palace of her own, in the border town of Ikylos. Sadly, this town was destroyed by the Kraken a week later. It is now completely deserted; what little of value was left has been pillaged away by barbarians; and it is considered unlikely that construction will ever begin on Aliana's palace. When Lysander refused to rebuild Ikylos (thus leaving Aliana without her part in the inheritance from Nestor's abdication), she was justifiably fuming - and now, she outright refuses to speak to her brother.

Kyle - As a young man, Lysander always despised Kyle, whom he found to be very immature and annoying. He referred to him by the disparaging nickname "Dweebface", and frequently visited his room specifically to make his life miserable. Of course, he usually got into trouble with his parents for this - but this just made him resent Kyle even more.

Later in life, as both Lysander and Kyle matured and acquired more adult responsibilities, Lysander stopped pestering Kyle and calling him names. However, they never established any kind of friendship.

Story

Early years

Lysander Nestorakis was born in the year 12 AGE, to the newly-crowned Duke Nestor and his wife, Duchess Cassandra. Sadly, his parents were still immature and ill-suited to their new responsibilities: both of them were mischievous, and they delighted in watching their son play tricks of his own. Of course, when he became a toddler, this attitude only caused problems - as the young prince began to play pranks on not only his parents, but on everyone else around the castle, including visitors from foreign realms. Of course, this couldn't last - and so, his father began to become much more firm with him. However, his mother remained more lenient - which caused some tension among the royal couple.

As a child, Lysander spent most of his time playing with younger sisters, Aliana and Meriandra - pulling pranks against them, but also alongside them at his parents' expense. However, his father constantly reminded him he would grow up to be a Duke - and therefore, he would have to take lessons in every aspect of rulership. His favourite aspect was economics - but in reality, he didn't take any of his work seriously, and therefore, he performed poorly in most of his exams and assessments.

Once Lysander became a teenager, he finally began to grow more disciplined with regards to his work. However, he had not matured as a person - and indeed, his pranks had begun to descend into outright bullying. Two of his most notable victims were Kyle (whom he liked to call 'Dweebface'), and Lydia (whom he considered an easy target, as she was the only elf in the castle). Of course, this blatant abuse didn't endear him to any of the castle's inhabitants: the only people who could tolerate him were Cassandra (his mother), and Nikolas (his grandfather, who had an almost saint-like patience).

Adulthood and rulership

Originally, Nestor's plan had been for Lysander to take up the throne of New Atlantis at age 18. However, when he reached this age, he was still neither educated enough nor mature enough to rule. Therefore, Lysander was required to study for four more years - not taking the throne until he turned 22. Even then, he still wasn't considered ready - but Nestor was desperate to retire (not only because he himself was 50 years old, but because his own rulership decisions, such as his obsessive focus on the military, had made him unpopular with his subjects). Therefore, Nestor reluctantly abdicated the throne, and handed it over to Lysander.

As a ruler, it was widely expected that Lysander would find a wife and produce an heir. However, as he had inherited all of his father's ineptness with women (and taken a few tips from him), he found himself completely unable to do so. The only woman he ever dated was Vicky: a 17-year-old airhead who made it her mission to get together with as many princes as she could (and of course, this relationship lasted for less than a month, as she swiftly moved on to another prince). Nevertheless, Lysander's failings with women did attract sympathy from King Henrik of Kemmelreich, who himself had always considered romance to be grossly overrated. The two established a warm personal relationship - leading to the signing of a new treaty of co-operation between New Atlantis and Kemmelreich.

However, the improved relations with Henrik would be the sole success of a reign littered with miserable failures. The economy faltered; the impressive military that Nestor had built could not be maintained; and the people who had begged for his abdication now found that they missed him. Consequently, after only two years, Nestor answered his people's calls - and overthrew Lysander, to take the throne back for himself.

Priesthood and later life

About a month after Lysander's abdication, his grandfather Nikolas passed away. This left New Atlantis without a High Priest - and therefore, Nestor appointed the recently-unemployed Lysander to fill this post.

Immediately, Lysander imposed his own new vision for the temple - which was a radical departure from the staid, old-fashioned administration of his grandfather. Lysander sought to revive the temple's declining attendance figures by incorporating exciting new elements (such as dragons and dinosaurs) into his services. Unfortunately, these simply alienated most of the remaining attendees - and while 'Temple With Dinosaurs' did attract some children, most of these left after two of them were injured in 'Temple With Explosions'. Eventually, Lysander had to concede that he'd gone too far in trying to make his temple exciting - and, he decided to take a break for a few years.

While Lysander was away from the temple, his sister Aliana started a family - and he realised he didn't want to miss out on this aspect of life. Of course, he didn't have a partner with whom to father any children - so, he instead resorted to building a fake son, by the name of Castor. Sadly, Lysander's engineering skills weren't much better than his interpersonal skills - and therefore, Castor came out looking distinctly mechanical, with silver skin and visible gears everywhere. This simply inspired revulsion in anyone who set eyes upon him, and therefore, Castor had very few friends (other than Kyle's and Aliana's daughter Meri, who was immensely fascinated with Castor's unique body).

Now, in his 40s, Lysander is finally beginning to enjoy some success in life. After he finished building Castor, he re-opened his temple - this time with more reasonable ideas, such as 'Temple with Chocolate', or 'Temple with Painting'. As a result, his congregation has slowly begun to come back: he does still have the occasional silly idea (such as 'Temple with Clowns'), but most attendees are willing to tolerate these, as they appreciate that he's no longer doing anything outlandish. In the year 55AGE, his audience exceeded that of his grandfather for the first time - and, he now hopes to tour the continent, to spread his style of worship to other realms. How successful this will be remains to be seen.

Trivia

Lysander speaks two languages: Novoatlantean, and Modern Archonian. He also has a working knowledge of Classical Atlantean, for use as a liturgical language.
