Background story

Bruce is an octoling with an appearance like a Grimpoteuthis, despite being anything but. In his time there was a Grimpo-troup that was in charge of daily maintenance of the tech that existed down below. His best friend was in this troup and was a true birth Grimpoteuthis but he was just an octoling. Ingeniously thinking if he cut his hair to look like he had grimpo traits he'd get grouped with her, and he did. Bruce was in charge of Sniping and guarding the Oxygen Tanks, the place where air is restored to the rest of the Deep-sea district. While Keri was in charge of maintaining the tanks. When the events of Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion occured the sanitized octolings were sent to invade the Deep-sea district and take whatever they could. Eventually they followed suit and had taken several community members already- they were sent to the Oxygen Tanks to destroy them in hopes the people would come out running. Completely helpless Bruce and Keri were caught in the middle of the battleground. the rest of his squad that lived had disappeared and never shown themselves to his eyes again. with the news of more sanitization spreading he assumed the worst for his colleague. however at this point bruce didn't know about the metro station, he didn't know there was a way out of the sanitized hellhole and had to pretend he was a husk of a person and when he found someone who was not yet affected by the wipe he rushed to hug her, maybe as an attempt to protect the unstruck sharkling. maybe because he realized it was a person he'd never seen before suddenly finding her way to him. regardless she posed as a beacon of hope and his last spark of sanity left in the dark cesspool that was made of the Deep-sea district.
