Roano is a bouncy, bubbly Octoling with a penchant for all things gold and shiny. (And sparkly too, but shh, nobody needs to know that.) All of his earrings are gold, all of his jewellery has at least some gold, all of his clothes have gold accents. He is a slut for gold. Besides his magpie tendencies, Roano is a pleasant young man who, once befriended, will remain at your side through thick and thin, good and bad. His loyalty has gotten him into many unsavoury situations, and left him with scars he would rather forget. Hence, once his trust is broken, it’s impossible to regain – and I mean impossible. Roano is clear about his boundaries and trust breaking is a line you simply cannot cross with him.

However, for all his stubbornness and pleasantries, Roano is quite the trickster and enjoys deceiving others with false truths and wrong directions. This unfortunate little habit is a result of his life before the move to Rio Tokiyaki, and one that he tries desperately to break by turning to trickery on the battlefield – and where that fails, magic tricks. Yet he still slips up, so beware of any directions this boy gives you!

His passion and dedication to weaponry is a result of watching cartoons almost daily as a child, which gave birth to his still-burning dream of making the coolest, most balanced, overall best weapons on the market. His house is cluttered with blueprints for bombs, special weapons, main weapons, and even strategic uses for each one and notes on pre-existing weapons. He can easily assemble and dissemble even the most complicated machinery after a quick flick through the instruction booklet, a talent even he is a little awed of.

Although, of course, along with the trickery come a host of other problems. Once angered or even mildly annoyed, Roano is a sharp, sarcastic prick who, regrettably, wields his considerable linguistic skills to jab at every pre-existing wound a person might have. His self-preserving nature guides him to lie whenever he sees fit to save his own behind or better himself at the expense of someone he dislikes. His lies are incredibly convincing and often only subtle twists on the truth, and although he is aware his lies could bite him back one day, he abhors the feeling of humiliation and absolutely deplores feeling any sort of guilt at all. His reactions to being made wrong or called out on something he did incorrectly spark off an explosion of anger and self-justification quite beyond what one would normally expect. He has many, many reasons for this, but as for people knowing them, that’s a different story. At the very least, if given an option of how to fix something, he does use the advice!

Finally, Roano is extremely clever with a very fast thought process and can visualise multiple outcomes of an action one after the other to decide whether he wants to risk it. Many people would dub him reckless for this, but he prefers to call it ‘taking a calculated risk’. But, just like any other calculated risk, sometimes the outcomes weren’t even thought of!

Hailing from a previous life of… subpar quality, Roano moved to Rio Tokiyaki to escape his authoritarian dictatorship of a family. Constantly held to standards of perfection even he knew he couldn’t achieve, Roano spent most of his life in constant stress, working himself to the bone for the approval of his teachers and relatives. Sadly the boy just wasn’t suited to academics at the young age he was forced into it, and instead enjoyed mucking around with appliances and electrical things, trying to make robots. His dexterity and mechanical talent gained him no more praise than if he had drawn on the walls with a sharpie – read: absolutely none. This was incredibly discouraging to him and although his mother and grandparents did their best to at least encourage his hobby, he rarely had the chance to work on anything bigger than a palm-sized device.

As a young teenager he began to take more gregarious interest in larger machines, garnering an apprenticeship to a car mechanic by the age of 13. Though his father tried to dissuade him time and time again, he could hardly complain, as the boy was earning an incredibly good income for his age!
As he grew older and more self-aware, Roano began to fight against the constant criticism and belittlement, leading to inconceivably ferocious arguments between him and his father. Eventually the rows reached their peak at a violent spat just after Roano had been accepted to another apprenticeship, and his father said just those few wrong words to make it unforgivable.

Roano cancelled his apprenticeship, found an apartment in Rio Tokiyaki, packed up and was gone before the week was out. This was when he was 19. He has not spoken to his father since the argument.
He still keeps in touch with his mother and grandparents and does occasionally see them, but point-blank refuses to talk to his father and detests the idea of even being near him.

His original reason for moving was simply to get away from his father, but now he’s steadily working towards getting his own weapon brand – a goal he thought would never be within his grasp.
