Red-bottomed horse monkey
nuwa's little helper.
"I now know the reason for my existence. I swear to never stray from my path again."
Susu is a small, unassuming monkey, living in Megapolis. He’s an experienced healer and runs his own little clinic. She can tell what ails a person by one quick touch of her fingers, and cure anything from bruises to broken bones to disease in seconds.
Over his many centuries of life, he's become very accustomed to human culture, though he wasn't always like this. In stark contrast to her now kind and down-to-earth attitude, she was once a revered being, favored by the Gods for her healing abilities and connection to the Underworld, and never let anyone forget they were beneath her.

About
Susu was created by Nuwa in order to watch over and care for mankind, however he was unaware of his purpose for the longest time and did not start fulfilling this duty until he was much older. His early days were spent on Flowerfruit Mountain alongside the other three celestial primates, Wukong, Macaque and Bei Li, with Susu and Bei Li being especially close.
Her power manifested itself as healing magic, and an extraordinarily strong connection to the Underworld. Not in the know about who created her, the rest of the Gods were quite impressed by her potential, and she was invited to the Celestial Realm quite frequently to be taught ways of enhancing her abilities.
The recognition and attention from the Gods led to Susu developing a sense of superiority, often boasting about his powers and acting as if he were above all others. He might even have become a full-fledged Celestial himself someday, had it not been for his mate Bei Li, the Long-Armed Gibbon, who caused such a disturbance in the heavens that both he and Susu were banished from the realm.
Following this, Susu severed ties not only with Bei Li but also with Macaque and Wukong. Ashamed, she hid herself away from the eyes of the Gods and became a hermit who devoted most of her time to meditation and connecting with the Underworld, helping lost souls find their way and guiding them through the afterlife. This went on for centuries, and it might have continued for centuries to come, had Susu not received a vision that finally made her aware of her true purpose in the world. She was meant to watch over mankind—with this knowledge, she eventually mustered up the courage to step out into the real world again.
It didn't take too long for him to reintegrate himself into society. He embarked on a journey across the country, offering assistance to people and families in need along the way. Eventually, he settled in Megapolis, where he now operates a small clinic and has taken on an apprentice, Caramel.

Creator's note
In JTTW, the Red-Bottomed Horse Monkey is described as having knowledge of Yin and Yang, understanding human affairs, being adept in its daily life, and being able to avoid death and lengthen its life. This is reflected in this version’s character as well.
- Him being bigender could be a nod to his association with Yin and Yang, as Yin represents Negativity, Darkness, and Femininity, and Yang represents Positivity, Brightness, and Masculinity. Though this was completely unintentional on my part and I only realized it in retrospect.
- As a being created to watch over mankind, she understands human affairs, and is well-integrated into human society, thus adept in her daily life.
- He is immortal here, so there’s no need for him to avoid his own death and lengthen his own life, but this is where the idea of him being a healer came from. Essentially, he can use this ability on others to prevent them from being in pain. Or dying.
