Kha'kuzo is member of one of Zair's tribe; he's second son of Alpha and his third kid. He grew up pretty normally, but in time his parents noticed that he's not like his peers; he couldn't transform into his monster form even if he tried hard and put himself info stressing situations (which usually helped with first transformation), but nothing helped. He also couldn't feel a bond to anyone despite trying and meeting with many people who catched his eye. Kha'kuzo was quite worried about his future, because for Zairs finding partner and having monster form were basics of their existence. Feeling bad, Kha'kuzo overworked himself by hunting for many hours and patrolling forest.

One time, one of his tasks were to hunt down an Avai who destroy Zair's traps and is generally a bother for whole tribe. Kha'kuzo's team found him and traced him, but Kha'kuzo wanted to be the one who killed him as a revenge for all damage he did. And that was a moment when Kha'kuzo felt the bond - first sight one, toward an Avai, who supposted to be his enemy. Avai's name was Ciri, and despite being damaged pretty badly, he was unfriendly, angry and ready to counter attack with his last sight of strenght. Kha'kuzo tried to befriend with him, but Ciri stayed unconvinced; it was pretty obvious that he doesn't trust Kha'kuzo, even when they looked like good pals. Though after a while Ciri's distrust broke and when Kha'kuzo showed his feelings to young Avai, he accepted him as his partner. They moved into Zair's tribe, to Kha'kuzo's house and started to live here hapilly together.
