Jotunheim
Sin was born in the cold, icy realm of Jotunheim. he is the son of the fen-dweller Fenrir and the jotunn Hyrrokkin, and is the brother of the wolves Skoll and Hati. His early childhood is mostly shrouded in mystery. He lived together with his brothers and mother in a hall by the world tree Yggdrasil’s roots. Being children of Fenrir, Hyrrokkin was careful to keep them hidden amongst the dense forests of Jotunheim.
Curious by nature, Sin spent a lot of his time roaming the surrounding forest, collecting bones and feathers. On one of these expeditions he met the messenger squirrel Ratatoskr, who carried messenger from the serpent Níðhöggr to the eagle sitting at the top of the world tree. With the use of berries and nuts, the young boy attracted the squirrel, slowly earning its trust over time. This tiny creature became Sin’s first friend, and they would spend hours playing chase among the vegetation.
Hyrrokkin gave Sin an oddly coloured raven egg when Sin was seven, and told him to hatch, and care for the chick. As the bird would prove helpful in the future. The tiny hatchling would grow up into a reddish blue Raven which Sin nicknamed Rauður. Rauður was a helpful companion both for surveillance and scouting.
Being a grandchild of Loki, Sin had the ability of shapeshifting into different beasts. Sin used much of his time perfecting this ability while playing in the forest. The shape he preferred to use was his wolf form, which felt most natural since both his brothers and father were wolves. One day when the teen was out practicing his abilities, he heard branches snap from behind one of Yggdrasil's roots. The young lad’s curiosity made him climb the root, peeking over the top. On the other side he saw a tall man walking alongside Yggdrasil’s trunk. He disappeared underneath a thick root, being gone for what felt like hours, only to immerse again, lacking one of his eyes.
Sin stared in awe as the man left. Curious to know what the man had done, he ventured into what looked like a cave under one of the world tree’s roots. After a short while, the cave opened up into a big hall showered in a blue hue. An old man sat by a body of water in the center of the room. The man introduced himself as Mímir, and explained that the water before him is the well of wisdom. Mímir continued that the young man would be allowed to drink from the divine water, only if he was willing to sacrifice something important to him.
Being inspired by what he had seen just before entering, Sin fished up a small, round, white rock from his pouch. Proceeded to pretend to dig his right eye out, throwing the rock into the water. Not noticing the rock sinking, the old man was at first fooled, allowing the man to take a drink from the water. This gave Sin his ability to understand and write runes, and to use Seiðr. After Sin had taken a sip, Mímir discovered he had been fooled, and punished Sin by damaging the eyesight on the eye he claimed to have removed. This caused his right eye to get a deep purple hue whenever he used his Seiðr or other abilities.
On his 16th birthday, Sin received a young, dark coated Fjord horse from his grandfather as a coming of age gift. The horse could be called from any location and was a small but agile companion useful for travel. Sin spent a lot of time with his stallion, giving him the name Silfurfeldur. The horse would prove crucial for Sin when he a few years later would leave his realm in hopes of rescuing his father.
Gleipnir's Spell
Sin was a young adult when his father Fenrir was discovered and taken to Asgard by the Gods. Over time they learned that Fenrir continued to grow in size and possessed powers that would pose a threat to their realm and themselves. Odin, the all-father, feared the beast as the Norns had warned him that this wolf would be his fate. Driven by the want to change destiny, Odin tricked Fenrir and Tyr by challenging the wolf into breaking a set of golden bands placed on his body. As a bid Fenrir wanted one of the gods to place their hand in his mouth, to show him there were no tricks. Tyr, trusting the all-father, placed his hand in the beast’s mouth.
The golden bands on his body caused Fenrir great pain and once the wolf realized the bands couldn’t be broken, I ripped Tyr's hand off in anger. The gods took the ends of the golden band, named Gleipnir and wrapped them around a rock on the island of Lyngvi. They also drove a sword through Fenrir’s mouth to prevent him from opening or closing it.
Sin would arrive in Asgard a few days later. Disguised as a raven, he flew over the landscape accompanied by his pet raven. They landed by the banks of Amsvartnir, the lake where the island of Lyngvi was located. Not long after Sin had returned to his human form, he was quickly stopped by the one armed God Tyr. Asking who he was and what his business was at a place like this. Sin never got to answer before Odin appeared, answering for him.
Odin informed Tyr that this young man was one of Fenrir’s sons, and that he was most likely here to try and set his father free. Odin could sense the Seiðr flowing in Sin’s veins, the wisdom of the Mímisbrunnr. Sin could prove a powerful ally. Before Tyr got the chance to do anything Odin proposed a deal with the son of Fenrir. He would be allowed to stay in Asgard, in a hall by his fathers side, and roam as he liked. With the catch that he would now become his father’s guard. Making sure Fenrir never got the chance to escape.
Instead of making himself an enemy of the Gods, Sin accepted the deal. This would insure his freedom to roam and also a place to stay. Before he was free to go however, Tyr fished up some pieces of the band Gleipnir from his pouch. Explaining that they couldn’t be too careful when it came to a son of the fen-dweller, he wrapped Gleipnir around Sin’s wrists, limiting his powers. The gods had no idea if Sin had the same ability to grow to the size of his father, and chose to not take any chances. They wanted to make sure Sin wouldn’t be able to use his abilities to wreak havoc in the realm. This prevented Sin from being able to use his Ragnarǫkr form, a super sized beast form he hadn’t discovered yet. If Sin tries to use his Ragnarǫkr form the Gleipnir bands start to glow and burn, preventing him from transforming.
Across realms
Being curious at heart, Sin didn’t have the patience to stay at the island of Lyngvi for too long at a time. He would often use Silfur or just his wolf form to explore the other realms branching from Yggdrasil. He once visited Svartalfheim, the home of the dwarves. Where he won in a drinking competition against a band of blacksmiths to win a golden coated horse, rumored to be able to walk on water and deflect arrows. He named this Horse Synin, and spent a long time earning its trust, as the stallion was really stubborn and preferred to do things his own way.
One realm Sin enjoyed visiting was the realm of humans, Midgard. He often traveled across the bridge Bifrost down to midgard. Mingling among men as both a man himself or a red wolf. By roaming the outskirts of villages disguised as a wolf he earned the folk lore name “Blóðvargr” as people reported seeing “a big wolf, covered in blood, roaming the forest at night”. This activity would lead him to meet who would later become his soulmate.
While roaming the forest outside a village one night he was ambushed by a unique looking fox. As the critter tried to attack him, he noticed a familiar marking hidden underneath its neck fur. The marking of Loki. Sin quickly changed shape and tried to communicate with the beast. The Fox stiffened and hid behind some rocks. Sin continued to talk to it, explaining that the marking he saw was the marking of his grandfather.
Before He got the chance to look for the fox, a young girl appeared from behind the rock, nervous and obviously shaken. She asked if he was telling the truth, as that marking had done nothing other than to cause her pain and suffering. She explained that the god you cursed her like this killed her mother as well, making her father resent her. Awestruck, Sin stumbled to try and grasp what this beautiful young lady was telling him. After winding down he offered to help her try and figure out why Loki had marked her like this.
Sin brought her back to his hall in Asgard. They would grow very close and later wed. As a couple they would travel across the realms, exploring, looking for answers, looking to learn something new.
Ragnarok
During Ragnarok, Gleipnir’s magic will fail and Sin’s full powers will be restored. As the final battle starts, Sin will transform into his Ragnarǫkr form and wreak havoc across the realms. Sin will also use his ability to cover the moon in a red hue, creating a blood moon, coating the battlefield in a deep crimson light. He will be remembered by the “blood wolf” name in the saga about Ragnarok because of this.
