spider OC based on my real life pet tarantula by the name Smithi! (NOT a sona/representation of me)
Full name: Samanta Octavius Smithers (not Samantha but Samanta, without the th as it's the Spanish variant of said name! Therefore it is also pronounced differently but in-universe most people get it wrong. This happens so much in fact that she's stopped correcting people)
Pronouns: she/her
Alias: Spider-Woman (her comic run would probably be called Spider-Smithi or something)
Age: around 38 ~ 41 on the images depicting her here
(she was bitten at age 24 and had been spider-woman for 17 years before dying in battle at 41... this parallels the real-life Smithi that died at age 17 :,) which is insanely old for a spider hence why Samanta isn't the youngest herself in comparison to other spideys)
Personality: As Spider-Woman, her upbeat, spunky, and quippy personality stands in stark contrast to her serious and down-to-earth demeanor as Samanta. Through her vigilante alter ego, she finds the freedom to fully embrace her womanhood, unleashing the girlish and youthful side that she keeps hidden in her everyday life. This hidden side of her is often overlooked due to aspects that could be perceived as more masculine or just not typically feminine, like her job, personality, appearance or disability.
Appearance/design notes:
- Her shoulders are quite broad as she's an ambulatory wheelchair/crutch/prosthetic user and generally relies the most on her arms for mobility (she does a lot of swinging as spider-woman). Apart from that her build is rather curvy (also based on Smithi's proportions irl)
- she has a few white hairs, particularly one bigger strand, are visible emerging from her roots
Samanta's a half-Mexican, half-British and daughter of Frederick Octavius, is her Universe's Doc Ock. (THIS is because first of all, Smithi was a Mexican redknee and second of all said breed of tarantula was first discovered by British arachnologist FREDERICK OCTAVIUS it was too convenient not to steal) She's also an amputee, missing part of her right leg. In everyday life, she uses either crutches or a wheelchair if she has to traverse longer distances but as spider-woman, she wears a prosthetic. The mechanical arms she wears when she's spider-woman are a mixture of the traditional doc ock and iron spider arms and also allow for more mobility in battle. (she expanded on her father's research to build them)
The radioactive spider that bit her was actually a spider she herself was conducting experiments on as she's a geneticist who works for Oscorp. She later, upon discovering her spider powers, ran a few experiments on herself in an attempt to both enhance and reduce some attributes. She also gave herself additional attributes that later became useful such as her organic web shooters however this didn't exactly go her way all the time as it resulted in her gaining a few less favorable spider characteristics such as a high sensitivity to light (hence why she's often seen wearing sunglasses)
Her original motive for wanting to enhance her powers was to be able to protect people from her father (who had gone mad by that point) and to keep him at bay. It was only later that she earned a sense of justice and decided to continue the fight and take on the mantle of spider-woman!
Samanta was her universe's Spider-Woman for a grand total of 17 years before she passed away in a fierce battle at 41. She got bitten and gained her powers at 24, so she's always been an adult Spidey. After Samanta's death, two new Spideys stepped up to continue her legacy!
