Despite harboring resentment towards Samanta for abandoning her during a crucial moment in both of their lives, Aaliyah unexpectedly and very ironically finds herself falling in love with Spider-Woman. Eventually, Aaliyah realizes that Spider-Woman is, in fact, Samanta herself, leading her to constantly deny this truth about Samanta's secret identity as a way to rationalize her conflicting emotions. This theory of hers does get confirmed later down the line though in a dramatic reunion.
Aaliyah briefly takes on the mantle of the infamous vigilante Black Cat however she really only does so to get involved with Spider-Woman and to mock her in a way by parodying the whole, as she would put it, "animal themed alter ego in tight as fuck spandex" gimmick. All this is further illustrated by her suit not contributing much to hiding her identity and being more scandalous in appearance.
