• Thank you for everything, you've seriously done so much for me. If you weren't there, I probably would have lost my mind! I'm sorry I can't stay with you and Lee, but I can't give up on my search for her either. It kinda hurts to leave and never see you two again, but that's just the way things have to be, I guess. I'll never forget what you've done for me and you better not let Lee forget me either! We got up to a lot of trouble together, it's only fair he remembers why the table's missing a leg (sorry again btw). This is honestly kind of embarassing to write, but it's kind of scary how things disappear so easily. So that's why I wrote this for you ˙ᵕ˙

story

After he hands over the letter and they part with one last hug, he leaves before he can be convinced to stay. There's no telling where XXXX is and if she's in trouble, he has to find her, consequences be damned.

He makes sure his light rifle is fully charged before preparing to make his first rift. You can never be too safe when worlds can die and the rift device hasn't even left the experimental phase yet. When the new world's portal swirls into view, it both awes and scares him. It reminds him of the first time the scientists opened one on live video, and of the first time he saw one in person.

Stepping through, he immediately notices the sky is red. Her favorite color. It's too bad no one's here for him to tell that to, although he wonders if he'll find anyone here at all.

"As long as the device still works, she's still alive."

But sometimes he has to wonder. The device really is working, right? Could it have malfunctioned and he just keeps stepping through the portals created in some sort of fruitless chase? Or did Selma and her buddies lie to him, in some sort of sick attempt to keep him hoping? He knows that's illogical for numerous reasons, but sometimes when the night is quiet and his thoughts start wandering, he can't help but wonder.

Another thing he thinks about is that no matter how many years fly by, he doesn't think he's aged a day since they separated. Maybe his perception of time is starting to disappear and maybe he doesn't care about that at all. The only thing that stays constant is his goal to find her. Despite having been apart longer than they had been together, he can't stop no matter what. Has it been that long, already?

In a world only he knows—
On one particular girl's 8th birthday, Nox was hastily making sure his plan was perfect. While the park had closed down due to some vague reason given out by the officers, he had found an unrepaired hole in the fencing, covered by weeds. There was no reason to delay her gift, he couldn't wait to see the smile on her face.

Whatever dangers that were cited by the officers couldn't have been too bad, he had gotten into worse troubles before. To be known as a troublemaker when you were 8 was a sign of prestige, of having the guts to do what rules told you you couldn't. He was the son of the head officer and Nox was never scared of the veilbeasts when others were!

So, when he surprised XXXX with what he had been planning since before the whole park closure business, they were both excited. While she wasn't as eager to disobey orders, the fact he went to such lengths for her birthday couldn't have made her happier. It's only too bad the hand-drawn map lead them straight to danger instead of treasure...
