Hughie is someone who likes to poke the tiger for his own amusement. Not caring what others think of him, he takes pride in intimidating others and making life a bit more rowdy. Pissing people off is fun!
He currently works for Mrs. Bùi, an old lady that runs a small Asian supermarket called "Happy Asian Market". Part of his job description is... to fight off demons that have possessed the supermarket with Buddhist demons. Not a dull day beating the shit out of devil spawns!

Hughie's family was a bit rocky, as his father left the family to pursue someone else. His mother worked and was never really home, not connecting well with Hughie and was often frustrated with his shortcomings in school. Hughie would be frustrated in return, combative at his mother for not really knowing him.
He got roped up in gang activity at a young age by friends and found himself belonging there more, though he learned some bad habits. He's been into Juvie several times.
Later, his mother was remarried and his sister Ginny was born. Ginny was much more amicable and better at school, and the family focused more on her than Hughie.
His relationship with Ginny was more or less positive, though Hughie had some jealous feelings and resentment towards her being the favorite child. Ginny was spoonfed to be wary of Hughie, though when they did hang out Hughie was her protective older brother.
The unthinkable happened. At age 12, Ginny went missing from their home. A window was open, though signs of a break-in or running away were not evident.
When it was clear that finding Ginny would not be easy, it tore the family apart. Due to his past record, Hughie was made as a major suspect, even by his own parents who by now thought of him as a stain to their name. In a nightmarish ordeal, Hughie was made to the media as the kidnapper.
After a few investigations, he was innocent and the search went on. His parents started what would be a long campaign to find Ginny...
They are still searching for Ginny for the past 12 years.
Hughie would try his best to stay out of the light of the media and eventually try to cut ties with his gang, but he would be a scapegoat to a crime and land in jail for a few years.
His release would have Hughie hopping through jobs that would hire someone like him. In his jobs, he went on his own to try to find Ginny and spread awareness. In his own way he coped with the ambiguous loss and oversaturated his mind with 'what ifs'. When he'd get overwhelmed, he'd move onto the next town.
Broke, Hughie would find himself breaking into a closed Asian supermarket with the intent to sleep there. In his snooping he'd find an odd book that looked interesting, and it turned out to be the deceased owner's instructions on how to summon Buddhist demons.
Hughie would hear a distrubance, and upon investigation found that in the basement there were the remnants of a devil-worshipping cult, slaughtered by demons they've raised.
...for some reason that excited him. Hughie would find a way to summon a demon from the book, and use it to fight off the devils. Successful, he'd return upstairs to find the wife of the supermarket owner, back from the funeral.
Seeing him as a solution, she'd offer him a job and a place to stay in the supermarket if he'd take care of the pest problem for her. Finding the deal good, Hughie would take the job, beating up demons and running the store mostly in solitude. He even has a nice deal with a bigger demon that hangs around there. He intends to simply... exist.
A good friend. Never was part of a gang but was always drifting around towns and befriended Hughie at his old jobs. Hughie likes his chill vibes, though isn't afraid to knock some sense into him.
She can get pretty high-strung sometimes, but she organizes things pretty well and handles tech better than him, so he doesn't mess with her job. Just messes with her temper 'cause it's funny seeing her fume.
Hughie's a bit weirded out by how chill she is around the shenanigans that goes down at the supermarket, but he repsects her level-headed nature. Also has a soft spot for her 'cause she's just a kiddo finding a place to hang.
She's quite an oddball of a woman, but she cares and has a spunk of her own that Hughie admires. He might not understand the rhyme and reasons of her operations, but she's grown on him.
The main demon that Hughie calls forth. She is rather harsh on him but also enables him to cause more trouble for bloodshed's sake. Hughie likes her no-bullshit attitude, but she nags too much.
A demon that happens to keep on appearing. He's a bit too powerful for Hughie to take down in one go... but he's pretty to keep around at least, so he'll have fun trying to spook this demon away with his boldness. Or not. Win win.
