"A business should have a heart behind it. It's a shame so many don't."

Jay grew up in a strict household, expected to inherit his father's company from a young age. He had no time to himself and grew up isolated from everyone, even his family. To rebel, Jay often snuck out and spent time with his younger sister, Maya. Maya is his half-sister from a different mother, neither of whom their father remained married to for long. Jay and Maya depended on each other and were each other's rocks all throughout childhood. When their father realized they refused to be separated, he made Maya go into the family business as well. Because of the intense pressure put onto both of them after this, Jay and Maya developed a dislike for their father and subsequently saw how he really ran the business. As they got older, they decided they would take over the company together and make it a better place to work, with more focus on their employees' well-being than their production levels.

In college, Jay began to date a man named Adrian. Adrian was sweet and nice at first, but quickly turned into an emotionally abusive person. However, between work, looking after his sister, and school, Jay found himself unable to leave Adrian and ended up staying with him as time passed. He found himself unable to let go of the relationship for a long time, even after he graduated and began to work full-time, as it was the only one he'd ever had. When Jay's father passed, he inherited the position of CEO and put Maya into the position of his executive assistant. While they were able to steadily transform Obelus Tech, the conglomerate Jay now ran, into the dream company he and Maya always imagined as kids, Jay's personal and work life was a mess. Adrian was worse than ever, Maya was pressuring him to leave the relationship, and he had business problems left and right.

People were attempting to sabotage Obelus Tech, as its profits skyrocketed with Jay and Maya's new business practices. Jay couldn't handle the pressure from all sides, and finally decided to leave Adrian. His relief was short-lived, as shortly after, he became haunted by what he believed to be a demon. Maya instantly recommended her best friend, Henry, as a solution to this problem. Jay offered Henry a large sum of money to help him, but was shocked when he refused it on principle. As Henry got dragged into a world of corporate espionage and details of Jay's past came to light, the two of them became incredibly close. Henry stood by him despite all the troubles he had, and was incredibly kind and empathetic to boot. When everything was finally settled, Jay realized he had feelings for Henry, and the two began dating.

Notes

  • Did not believe in spirits or the supernatural at all, at least until he met Henry.
  • He and Maya have the same father but different mothers. Jay loves his mother dearly, while Maya doesn't get along well with hers.
  • Jay originally wanted Maya to be COO alongside him, but she turned the position down because she didn't want to have to deal with the media/other businesspeople.
  • Jay is a gentle person with his employees and people he cares about, but extremely tough on other businesses and refuses to compromise his business practices for anybody.
  • Jay doesn't understand his sister's obsession with metal music but supports her hobbies anyways.
  • He has little to no hobbies of his own, and tends to be a workaholic. Henry helps him break this habit later on, and he takes to crocheting, something his mother did.
  • The matching lockets he and Maya wear contain pictures of themselves together as kids.
