[...WHY HE PLAYS...]
Ever since he was little, Virrik knew and understood the power of rapport. He knows people and cares for them. And aside from his family and closest friends, he cares greatly for the population of Vrata Ognya at large. His revelation of sorcery made him understand that he carries a great and unique power (and that in a way, everyone does). So in order to be the best person he can be, he must use his own powers responsibly and for the sake of his home city.
Ultimately, Virrik is here because he wants to leave Vrata Ognya in a better state than when he was born in it.
The Story Thus Far...
[...MEMORIES...]
#1. The Bullies
On a sunset-lit day in his youth, Virrik came across a small group of kids (trying to) push Goroka around. Eager to protect his sibling, he charged in and spread his arms out to separate them all. "Be nice!" He proclaimed rather simply. While two of the strangers only laughed at the gesture, one young dragonborn reconsidered her actions and apologized. The remaining two eventually walked away from the encounter. Seeing as how Virrik's interference led to the protection of Goroka and a new friend, it was here when he realized the power of kindness through speech.
#2. Father
Virrik once went on an outing with his father, Lyndowin. The two took a few board games to the gardens as to play in some fresh air. The topic of Lyndowin's own parents came up, with him lamenting that he'd have to visit them again soon. Virrik questioned why every time he does so, he has to visit them alone without the presence of his own wife and children. Lyndowin grimaced, uncertain how to answer at first. Eventually, he said that "sometimes you have to force yourself to do things you don't like to keep other people happy." Virrik remembered this.
#3. Cracks in the Ice
In his tweens, it was discovered that the blood of a sorceror ran through Virrik's veins. But the discovery in itself was not particularly pretty. While having a playful day at school, a stray blast of ice splintered from the elf-orc's hands. His recklessness put a fellow classmate in the infirmary, leaving them permanently maimed. This encounter stirred a raucous argument at home. His father Lyndowin advocated for homeschooling, allowing Virrik to train in secrecy and prevent him from harming other residents. His mother Guri pushed for the sorceror's enclave, wanting Virrik to understand his magic out in in the open. This onslaught of conflict within his family brought dread to Virrik. It was here he would never forget the power he held - and how in order to have a peaceful world, he must be cautious with it.
#4. A Neverending Spark
Ultimately, Virrik was sent to the sorceror's enclave as to be formally trained in his magic amongst others like himself. His spirit was renewed in this place, feeling understood in his insecurities and getting a chance to truly learn his capabilities. And more. While small, the enclave gave him further chance to question, to find himself. And most of all, to learn how to control his powers. He was a teacher's pet of a student, getting along well with most of his mentors and serving as a likeable soul to his classmates. However, there was one upperclassman that try as he might, he could just never impress. And this bothered the hells out of Virrik. Even in adult life, he finds himself compelled to want to interact with this former classmate and make a good impression on them.
#5. Gilded Together
Once Virrik reached young adulthood, The Stillsong Family ended up coming together better than it ever used to be. Seeing as how their children came into their own, Lyndowin and Guri officially retired from their positions as librarian and adventurer respectfully. It was time for new pastures, so they decided to form a family business by the name of Stillsong Signage and Strokes. Happy to have a unified family again and bolstered by his previous training, Virrik happily took to the idea. He sat at a family meeting in which him and Goroka were encouraged to pick which path in the business they'd want to take: crafting, or merchantry. Eager to meet all sorts of customers and to make a mark on Vrata Ognya, Virrik chose to follow his mother's path into merchantry. It was through this exposure to the people where Virrik gradually grew a bond with the city's denizens, and thus started investing himself into the city's wellbeing at large.
