[ . . . WHY THEY PLAY . . . ]
When you get right down to it, Goroka finds themselves to be a simple person - to serve is to live, and vice versa. The memories in their life made them understand that all will be well if you put full faith into those you trust - and into yourself. Ergo, if someone is willing to believe in you, then you must not squander that belief and do your absolute best for them.
Ultimately, Goroka is here because someone they care for is here.
The Story Thus Far...
[ . . . MEMORIES . . . ]
#1. The Bullies
On a sunset-lit day in their youth, Goroka found themself being pushed around by a group of young bullies. In particular, it was their lumbering size that was being pointed out. Feeling self-conscious from this, Goroka simply shrank and tolerated it. However, their brother Virrik spontaneously appeared to their aid. While they thought it would do nothing at first, Virrik's efforts ended up paying off and ended the conflict peacefully. Feeling more at peace with their brother's presence, it was here Goroka learned to give faith and dedication to the people they care about.
#2. Mother
Goroka once went on an outing with their mother, Guri. The two went on a fishing trip so Guri could teach her child a thing or two about survival skills. Goroka initially took to fishing like a fish to a desert, easily losing their patience and scaring the fish in the process. Guri chuckled, teaching Goroka an exercise to help control their breathing and garner their sense of patience. This ended up teaching Goroka three things: how to control their breathing, how one should approach things patiently, and the crushing weight of a giant river pike.
#3. The Passing Stranger
On a trip back from the market, Goroka passed by an alleyway at a time most inopportune - witnessing a mugging in the process. Their first instinct was to flee, but it was too late. The thug caught eyes with the young orc and pursued them as to quell any nosy looks. Before the mugger could fully get his hands on Goroka, they suffered the onslaught of a thousand cuts by a deft blade. A mysterious stranger of indiscernable appearance rescued Goroka, disarming the thief and transporting the tween to a safe place. Once all was settled, the unknown samurai disappeared as quickly as they came. Feeling a lack of closure in the encounter, Goroka vowed they would someday meet the passing stranger again. They would have to return the favor for a saved life.
#4. Honed Into Steel
While their brother Virrik was sent on the other side of the city to the sorceror's enclave, Goroka found themselves enrolled at the officer's academy in order to learn the art of swordsmanship. Not wishing to bring any charm to the table, the budding fighter was isolated from many of their classmates. While it was not outright bullying like before, Goroka could tell that they stuck out and that most did not want to be around them in a genuine manner. As much as they wished for the help of Virrik or the mysterious samurai, neither were there to help them. So if they couldn't save them, Goroka had to save themselves. Dedicating themselves entirely to training, they slowly learned how to dispel fear from their heart.
#5. Gilded Together
Once Goroka reached adulthood, The Stillsong Family ended up coming together better than it ever used to be. Seeing as how their children came into their own, Lyndowin and Guri officially retired from their positions as librarian and adventurer respectfully. It was time for new pastures, so they decided to form a family business by the name of Stillsong Signage and Strokes. Feeling ready to take on a new challenge with the family they're loyal to, Goroka accepted. They were however not as enthused as Virrik, wondering if this would be a big risk. They sat quiet at the family meeting in which they and Virrik were encouraged to pick which path in the business they'd want to take: crafting, or merchantry. Goroka eventually chose Lyndowin's path of crafting as Virrik already picked his role. Goroka would eventually find however that this was a good choice, as learning how to paint introduced a new outlet of peace and purpose.
