Many consider Dr. Boa to be the ultimate professional. Due to her frequent use of Hamon, she appears to be in her early 20s despite being nearly 40. On occasion, her appearance and gender cause her not to be taken seriously by clients or colleagues. Because of this, she exudes an air of confidence in her abilities as a doctor, as she knows she can't afford to appear weak or incapable. She's very mature, stoic, professional, and logical, sometimes to the degree of being considered harsh or blunt. Sometimes, her no-nonsense demeanour causes people to think she's cold and unfeeling. As an internationally renowned doctor with 22 years of experience, she's unphased by even the most grotesque or gory scenes. Getting a read on her emotions or a reaction out of her is very difficult.
The only person Dr. Boa lets her guard down for is Vera. After the death of Dr. Seo, Vera's mother and Dr. Boa's partner, Vera has become the most important thing in her world. She's far more relaxed and warm, even to the degree of being playful. She's still strict with her, though. She's very serious about her Hamon training and future as a Hamon doctor, to the point of being almost abusive at times.
Despite her composed demeanour, Dr. Boa has been a wreck since the death of Dr. Seo. She was without purpose before Dr. Seo saved her, and because of it began living for her sake. She was extremely reliant on her approval, so when they had a falling out, she became consumed by her work. Once Dr. Seo died and she took Vera in, she became obsessed with raising her into another version of her mother and entirely rejected the idea of Vera becoming anything but a Hamon doctor. Dr. Seo is one of the few topics that can get a rise out of Dr. Boa. She's willing to refuse a client soley because of an off-colour remark about her.
ok i'll probably write her a proper backstory eventually but a quick rambling breakdown:
lorelei, unlike dr. seo, did not come from a long line of hamon doctors. she had a really rough life before meeting dr. seo, i haven't decided the details.. something like being an orphan and being poor and bullied or something classic shonen protag backstory stuff. she ended up on the streets using hamon for evil like getting in fights and robbing people or something. it was then she had a chance encounter trying to rock dr. seo's shit. dr. seo beat her ass and lorelei was flabbergasted to meet someone else with her ability and dr. seo was like "yo you're kind of good at this. let's join forces" and lorelei agreed seeing her strength and grace, kind of like a speedwagon and jonathan thing. so, when she was 17, she left her old life of crime to study alongside dr. seo. dr. seo's family and associates were kind of snobby rich high class assholes and were always trying to shame her for not being from a prestigious family and didn't want dr. seo hanging around her but dr. seo always batted for her and defended her from them. lorelei was also genuinely gifted at hamon so you can only be so much of a hater when she's better than you 💀
so lorelei worked hard to become profecient in hamon w the connections dr. seo got her, again she was already gifted so she wasn't learning totally from scratch. dr. seo actually wasn't even a doctor when she found her (i'd use her first name to refer to her pre-doctor era like i'm doing w lorelei/dr. boa rn but i don't actually have a first name for her yet LOL) but officially became one like a year later (whatever that means.. is there like hamon school that you hamon graduate from and get a hamon diploma from? i dunno) and started travelling around the world w her and shadowed her as they treated various patients. by time lorelei turned 22 she officially became a hamon doctor too
it was also around this time dr. seo got recruited to work w the speedwagon foundation on a mission to crack down on a dangerous gang in france. one of the members had some devious stand that they thought someone proficient in healing w hamon could be useful for so she went on that little excursion and met polnareff, and. well
so dr. seo comes back from the trip and is like "i think i'm gonna retire from this hamon stuff i'm having a baby" and dr. boa is like "you're WHAT. you can't retire you can't have a baby" and they have this big falling out over it and part ways. this devastates dr. boa so badly she turns into a workaholic to cope. and after a couple years she finds out dr. seo is DEAD and killed by one of the members of that french gang but that she really did have a kid and her name's vera and she's 2. and she feels real bad about all the unresolved emotions she'll never have the chance to talk about with dr. seo so she figures the next best thing is her daughter. the least she can do is take her in in her mother's place after everything dr. seo did for her right.
so she raises vera in her mother's image, training her in hamon which she takes to well. she's kind of intense ab it though.. high key overworking vera sometimes and freaking out whenever vera mentioned wanting to do anything other than be a hamon doctor. i had an idea of her forcing vera to look at gore even though it scared her in order to become a more proficient hamon doctor but idk that may be TOO evil 💀 for the next 14 years of vera's life the two are perpetually travelling and treating patients around the globe and vera is deprived of a normal social life and stuff
anyways later on in vera's life she tracks down polnareff in italy and finds him w his shit absolutely rocked, so she and vera save his life. now dr. boa HATES polnareff. she views him as the reason dr. seo left hamon medicine and also the reason why she died (high key kind of a projection of her not being there to protect her). BUT. he IS also vera's father. and dr. seo probably would've wanted vera to have a relationship if they could. so she lets them have a relationship by assigning vera to take care of him when she's 12 for like a year or something but not telling them about their relation to each other. this is also why she doesn't see polnareff at all after saving him and he's passed out. she hates him.

VERA SEO pupil
Vera is the most important thing in Dr. Boa's world. When Dr. Seo died, Dr. Boa was quick to take Vera in. At first, it was out of obligation to her mother. She had unresolved emotions she would never have the oppurtunity to resolve with Vera's mother, so raising her daughter seemed like the closest thing she could do. As time passed, however, Dr. Boa started to grow fond of her outside of an extension of her mother. That being said, Dr. Boa is still very attached and has a lot of respect for her mother. Some might say it's an unhealthy idolization. She refuses to let Vera call her "mom", reserving that title for her actual mother, and raised Vera in her mother's image by also training her in Hamon doctoring for almost her entire life. At the same time, though, fearing that Vera would follow in her mother's footsteps and meet the same end, she kept a lot of details about her mother vague. It deeply upsets her when she hears her mention wanting to pursue a different career path. Vera is the only person Dr. Boa truly relaxes around and is much more warm and casual with her, starkly contrasting the serious, no nonsense, and somewhat cuthroat demeanour she exhibits to everyone else. Dr. Boa also takes a lot of pictures of Vera, especially of her in the various countries they visit, although never any of herself. In turn, Vera loves Dr. Boa deeply. When she was younger, she wanted to live up to her expectations of being a Hamon doctor as good as her mother, however, she started to find her life suffocating. They'd started fighting when she was 12. Vera longed to experience all the normal things girls her age got to experience. Dr. Boa wanted to focus on making her an amazing Hamon doctor like her mother while simultaneously ensuring she didn't go down the same path as her. This conflict persisted for 4 years until suddenly Dr. Boa sent her (school name) in Naples. As happy as Vera was to get her wish, it slightly worried her how seemingly frustrated she was about it even though it was her decision. However, not wanting her to change her mind, Vera didn't push her on it. Part of the reason she survived the encounter with the intruder was because of how desperately she wanted to prove to Dr. Boa she could take care of herself and that it wasn't a mistake to let her go out on her own. She's also going behind her back to learn about her mother against her wishes. Basically, it's complicated.
