BACKSTORY:

Naraka was once a soldier. Renowned for his strength and determination, he quickly rose through the ranks, from common soldier to commander of his own unit. However, shortly after he gained this position, it all fell apart. During one battle, he was shot in the leg with a blasting weapon. His serious injuries caused him to be invalidated home. During his months of recovery, he was in constant pain and discomfort. He had painkillers, but when they stopped working well enough, he eventually turned to alcohol to numb himself.

Even though his war wounds have now healed, his alcohol addiction (not to mention going soft as a result of doing nothing for months) meant that he couldn't reclaim his place in the army, something he is still bitter about to this day.

Negative: Short-tempered / Bitter / Touchy / Crude

Naraka is a tough brute. Most people who cross paths with him think he's either a gangster or Crowley's bodyguard. He has a very short temper and is self-conscious about his past; he may become violent when insulted or mocked because it reminds him that he's lost any right to be respected. He's clumsy and dimwitted when drunk (often becoming the comic relief character in stories). He knows his alcoholism is a problem, but struggles to find the will to quit.

He's still interested in military things and, during his more sober moments, likes to reminisce about his days in the army. He doesn't mind teaching youngsters about fighting, though doesn't really understand why anyone would choose to learn from him. Deep down, the commander side of him still exists - in a dangerous situation, he might instinctively take charge and protect those who can't protect themselves.

DESIGN:

Naraka is a small, stout dragon with fur covering his body. His wings heavily resemble a bat's wings, and he has pointed ears, protruding tusks, and a mane that flops over his left side. He had a few scars, the largest being on his left thigh.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Crowley

Naraka's friend. As Crowley is one of the only people willing to hang out with him, Naraka tolerates his sometimes annoying behaviour for the sake of not being alone.

Colin

A member of Crowley's gang. They don't talk very much, but maintain a mostly civil relationship.

TRIVIA:

- Primarily carnivorous; he can't absorb many nutrients from plant matter and eats mostly meat and dairy.

- He was 15 when he first joined the army and 21 when he was invalidated out.

- Has a crush on Princess Ethereal.

- In many stories, he's a comedic character whose dimwitted drunkenness is played up for humour purposes.
