Jackdaw's resonance is a form of trial, cast upon his target. It judges the weight of their soul and their actions based off those they've wronged. If they have enough actions deemed unforgivable, the sound of his bell will tear at their soul and judge them accordingly. If the target is innocent, and the bell is misused, then Jackdaw himself will be punished instead. His resonance only works on those who actively pursue evil or wrongdoing. Acts of survival and desperation do not generally count towards your guilt.

After making a blood-oath with the celestial Maelmury, Jackdaw gained the ability to channel her strength at will. More potent than a bond made of obligation, he's a cut above others who may take a similar oath. Since he and Maelmury are in agreement, it allows him to use much of her celestial power at a certain degree of risk since her magic is blighted. At a first stage of borrowed magic, he's able to sprout two pairs of wings, and fuel his ironsing to be more powerful.
At higher stages of borrowed magic, he's able to sprout three pairs of wings, and becomes more monstrous in appearance. Because of Maelmury's own attuning, he's able to use both ironsing and flamecharm. This generally manifests in the manipulation of more molten ironsing.
At further stages, it becomes dangerous, corrupting his magic and forcing it to go wild upon use. While the mantras can be quite powerful, they're almost too much to control, and it can harm his body almost permanently, with feathers and metal sprouting from his skin where the soul remembers injuries and tries to heal itself.

Jackdaw is an ironsinger since birth-- though he didn't want to pursue the way of many others and become a blacksmith, instead using it to aid him in spats and fights against the monstrosities of the depths and its layers. He has quite the arsenal of skills, using ironsing to take most whatever form he pleases, or to fortify his defenses as a whole. Though he could easily crush someone in their own armor or with their own blade, he generally prefers to not play so dirty-- that is unless they're the kind of foe who's unforgivable, or if Maelmury wishes it so. In situations against nonhumans, however, he's very used to fighting by any means necessary. Because of his ironsing, he's also never unarmed, being able to coat his fingertips with sharp claws, or defend himself with a sort of iron skin or makeshift plating.

Despite being the supposed captain of a crew of pirates.. he's actually quite average at sailing. Before he deserted the divers, he knew next to nothing about running a ship, but he's learned quite quickly for an old man. He dedicates plemty of his time to trying to make sure things run smoothly, now, despite this.
