After being locked in an MMO, Rin finds himself stuck in the body of his sisters avatar. Previously a high levelled DPS in a PvP guild, he is now a low level healer.
Before becoming stuck within the game, Rin was a medical student in university. He lives with his younger sister while his parents are out working.

As plainly as possible, Rin could be summed up with the word 'tsundere'.
In length however, Rin prefers to be as independent as he possibly can. However, due to his newfound weaknesses in the body he's trapped in, he finds it difficult to ask for help- hating to even appear like he is in need. Even if this is the case though, at times things are too much of a pain to do or obtain, it is only then Rin will begrudgingly ask for help in as few words he can.
Rin is also quick to irritate and anger, for if he feels he is wronged or dealing with people he deems as stupid, he will make it known what he thinks of them. This is especially true for people he is friendly with, as he has a tendency to idolize those good at the game and become irritated when they act out of line. This stems from his own self-critical nature, which he reflects onto others.

Originally, Merlin was someone Rin looked up to as a player of Elysium. Beliving he was a serious person and knew the mechanics of the game very well. Upon meeting him however, his whole perception of Merlin changed. While he feels he is an idiot still, Rin cannot help but think (perhaps wrongly) that there is a method to Merlin's madness- he became as strong as he is for a reason after all.
Stuck in a deal with the demon, Rin has become tolerant of being in close proximity with him and spending most his days by his side. While Rin hates to ask for things, with Faust he is slowly beginning to demand items and dungeon runs with him. Despite Rin's clear distaste for the man, it is always Faust who he runs to when he's in trouble first, prefering his teasing over anyone elses. Faust is also one of the only people who know Rin is a man.
Seeing Vanitas as a guildleader who is usually pushed around by his guild, Rin has a small soft spot for him. Vanitas' quieter nature stops Rin from overreacting and Rin's hotheadedness stops Vanitas from allowing himself to be pushed. After becoming trapped in the game, Rin has only recently come into contact again. They are on good terms.
