Information

“… someone who is going to be always by my side, I expect knightly virtues from an early age. And, above all… companionship, ability to connect with me and work with me almost as if we were one being. I’m going to trust myself to you and in return I expect you to do the same. Do you think you can do that? Can you take the challenge?”

Daniel Dianes was the crown prince of Nietas who passed away in the year 148. He was an intelligent, charismatic young man known for his strength in war tactics and the love for his people, and he was expected to become a king that would make Nietas an even more developed and nourishing country among those in the continent of Taros.

However, his life was cut short by a lethal illness he learned to have when he was 16, and his health gradually got worse until he died on the arms of his personal knight, Rowan Snowhill.

Appearance

This version of Daniel is identical to his Enhyrian counterpart, aside from his vampiric traits. Furthermore, near the end of his life Daniel had become visibly thin and frail in appearance, with a sickly pale skin and hazy eyes that seemed to already gaze towards the grounds of death. He also had dark circles under his eyes and his bones were sticking out, but he kept his aura of pride and nobility up until the end.

Personality

Although nearly identical to his vampire version, Daniel’s position as a crown prince gave him even more pressure than the position of a territory lord gave to his Enhyrian self. Due to this Taros!Daniel appeared even more mature with an aura of intimidation to him when on duty, a strong contrast to his otherwise soft and gentle appearance. He had the nerves of steel and a strong grip of his self control, but would then in turn break down quite often when alone or with Rowan.

Daniel also grew up more lonely as a child, spending most of his life before Rowan’s appearance within the large tower of his home castle, gazing down at the squires practicing down below. Perhaps because of the different setting of Taros, Taros!Daniel had an even stronger moral code and was borderline lawful good in alignment, as opposed to Enhyria!Daniel’s neutral good.

History

* This was written years ago so the grammar is a bit wonky here and there, sorry about that

Childhood

Daniel was born as the first son to the Dianes royal family. Although they had dark magic compatibility, none of his family members could use it and neither did Daniel. However, this never truly bothered him and he very soon figured it was just good that the royal family could represent a minority - in this case, non-magic users of Taros.

Due the fact he was the crown prince, Daniel’s schooling started very early. His parents were very present in his life despite their work and Daniel had a surprisingly good and balanced childhood for a royalty. He enjoyed reading and was genuinely interested in his studies, and also liked physical activities such as climbing, horse riding, sword fighting and walking in the woods. Daniel was noted to be a very mature child for his age and he rarely if ever threw tantrums, but his age did show in the way he occasionally pulled pranks on people and got himself in trouble over going to places he was not allowed to, most notably once climbing on top of his home castle.

Unfortunately Daniel didn't’ have all that many friends, as he was not allowed to just go to the city, and he was homeschooled. He often spent his time sitting in his tower and looking outside where knights and squires trained, becoming very emotionally involved with the young knights-to-be as they were around his age. And while the prince never talked to them, he almost felt like he was part of the group too.

Setting his eyes on a red-haired squire  (Daniel felt really connected to him because of their shared hair colour), the young prince eventually started asking his parents for a bodyguard. They suggested an adult, but Daniel firmly said he wanted someone his age, then further explaining it would be nice to have a friend who would also train to be a knight for him specifically. Although he was only 8, Daniel managed to persuade his parents and they agreed, and this is how Daniel and Rowan met.

Rowan moved to the castle after this and got his own room. He also started going through special training alongside his normal studies, and although very busy, Rowan always found time to be with Daniel and the boys really clicked well together.

Daniel and Rowan were later introduced to Princess Anna of Kinos and there were plans of Anna and Daniel marrying in the future. However, the young prince and princess didn’t care about marriages and instead together with Rowan they became an inseparable trio.

As he started getting closer to puberty, Daniel started becoming even calmer than he already was and a lot of his childish pranks stopped Or rather, maybe he just moved to gently teasing Rowan instead.

Adolescence

Daniel seemed to be kind of a late bloomer in terms of puberty while Rowan was the opposite of him. Because of this, Daniel was often a little pouty and felt insecure about himself and how he looked. He was sometimes angry at Rowan for growing up and leaving him behind but Rowan never took that into heart, and instead seemed to constantly reassure Daniel about his insecurities.

During this time Daniel was almost assassinated during a ball, leaving him with a strong trauma of large groups of people and making attending parties and ceremonies difficult for him.

He and Anna agreed they didn’t have any romantic feelings for each other at all and thus their marriage plans started to wither. The two just agreed to fake looking romantic for the sake of public as they were expecting that from them. However, Daniel started having romantic feelings towards Rowan instead. He was in denial about it for long as it would be difficult for Rowan due to their different ranks and because Daniel was expected to have a blood related heir, something which two men couldn’t possibly produce. He started getting more silent as his internal struggle between his duty and his feelings started taking him over. However, once Anna figured out Daniel’s crush and would talk about it with him, Daniel started feeling better about it, no matter how much they also hurt him.

He fell ill at the age of 16, although it’s possible it actually started even earlier and his puberty related problems were actually related to it. Daniel became afraid of death and he would spend a lot time alone, often crying in secret. He would even start disappearing without saying anything and often it was up to Rowan to find him and calm him down.

His health started gradually getting worse after that.

He couldn’t spend much time outside anymore and would get terrible coughing fits to the point he almost suffocated in them. Rowan in turn started spending even more time with him and would often stay awake next to him if the doctor couldn’t come. Daniel didn’t want to worry people though and he would often fake feeling much better than he actually did, but in the end he couldn't keep his declining health a secret anymore.

He became bedridden a few months before he died on Rowan’s arms at the age of 18

Trivia

  • I had this thing in planning where Daniel ended up into a limbo world and became the prophesied king of it.  At the risk of his second life and with the help of a demon called Kinash he could visit Taros as a ghost and protect Rowan. However, he couldn’t communicate with him in any way. Eventually he pulled Rowan with him to the limbo world to make sure they wouldn’t get separated.

I still sort of consider this a canon thing that happened, but as I have already told this story to myself in my head & moved to Enhyria canon I don’t have any plans on writing these down or anything. I consider Daniel’s story in Taros to be over.

  • He was originally supposed to be a disposable character to give Rowan a reason to why he was the way he was in Taros and why he went to Agane. However, as we all know, I got attached to him.

  • I consider Taros!Daniel one of the key characters to the worldsetting, as I used him, Rowan and Anna as my cores to expand the setting
