Appearance

Julia is a bizarre Tiefling specimen. She's a vibrant, dark shade of purple, with her horns and limb tips fading to a calmer lavender. Her face bears an extra pair of eyes, which you never thought could be possible, and yet, here they are. All four are solid and a pretty, uniform plum pink. One eyebrow is scarred slightly, leaving blank patches in a couple spots. From her eyes, you climb up her horns, which are strange, and branched. They are angular and segmented and feel much like a carapace when touched. Her ears are huge and are usually perked straight up, barbed on the end and on the earlobes. Julie's hair is a massive, curly mess, and reaches far past her hips without trouble. You can only imagine how long it would be if she straightened it.

Moving elsewhere from her face, her outfit reflects her outgoing personality. She wears a long pink scarf around her neck whose tails are tucked neatly into its length, so as not to interfere with her swordwork. On her left side, her shoulder and arm are completely armored in patchwork, patinated, and strange-looking metals. You assume that they were made by hand, and you would be right. Julie's other arm is completely unprotected, though she does wear a leather glove to match. A thin, pale pink blouse puffs out from beneath her leather corset and tails out from underneath, ending in one long banner between Julie's legs and two longer lengths tucked into the sides. Her legs are bare, knee-high leather boots adorning her feet. On her back, attached to the back of her corset, is a gigantic pink bow made of the same material as her scarf. It's actually a whole other scarf, just. Tied into a giant bow. Peeking out from beneath the bow snakes Julie's lengthy tail. It fades to a pleasant lavender just like the rest of her limbs do, except, it is tipped by a much less pleasant scorpion barb. It's extremely sharp, and real, and you really don't want to think about exactly what it could do to you if prompted.

History

Julia is the eldest of two children, elder to her younger brother, Damien, by 2 years. The pair were given up, shortly after Damien was born, into the foster system of their hometown. Their parents made the difficult, but wise decision, knowing full well that their lifestyle could never maintain a safe environment for their children. Julia never truly knew her parents, nor does she remember them. The only things the siblings have to remember their parents by are a pair of magic items. Damien's is a toy boat, one that, if spoken to properly, will expand into a full-sized sailboat. Julia's is a lengthy fabric scarf embroidered with numerous images. The scarf can store objects and release them at will. Their parents haven't seen them since the children were handed over, though Julia has been told numerous times that her place in the foster care system is temporary. Her parents' names are on record, listed with an empty promise to come back for her and her younger brother, though they have not come to visit even once. Their names, Deadshot and Cinere Bellatrix, have never left her mind. She remains hopeful that she'll meet them some day.

Julie's upbringing is a scattered one. As her hometown is mostly humanoid, consisting of dwarves, humans, the occasional gnome and halfling, and multiple orc families, Julie and Damien are well-known for standing out in a crowd. That is not to say they aren't welcome. The town knows the siblings well as incredibly caring, though rowdy at times, and can always count on them for a helping hand or a friendly chat. When the pair was first admitted into the town's foster system, however, this opinion was far different. Not only Tieflings, but Toxic Tieflings, the initial reaction to Julie and Damien was unpleasant at least, and genuinely hateful at most. Toxics have a reputation for being particularly dangerous, their venoms and poisons well-known killers. It took numerous caretakers at the foster home to convince the town that they were mere children, left at their doorstep in an act driven purely by the desire to raise them in a way their parents could not. And so they did.

While neither Julia nor Damien much enjoyed their shuffling in and out of foster homes, the variety of parents they have grown to know and love helped craft their caring nature. Their hometown is sweet, quiet, and generally wholesome, built on the views of an initial Orcish settler who believed in strength, hard work, and faithfulness, a slight deviation from typical Orcish values. As a growing child, Julia was taught these values well, instilling them within her as a mindset that would persist throughout her life. Her first few years in town were generally uneventful: she was raised in and out of numerous houses up until the age of 16, where she was handed to a particularly strange man. He owned the largest property in town, a large plot of land with a quaint, very large house. The "mansion", as Julie liked to call it, was full of strange knick knacks and souvenirs, armors and weapons, animal heads and paintings, and many other objects Julia couldn't identify. The place was huge, and had numerous rooms dedicated to housing items from specific regions or time periods. Julie and Damien were simply smitten, and the caretaker of the house proved to be just as kind.

Alfric Braiden, the man responsible, is an old, grizzled, though fit and sculpted adventurer. It's his minor fortune and kind heart that kept their town running in decent order for as long as any of its residents could remember. He keeps his home in perfect order, and kept his new foster children just the same. He took an interest in them after observing their growing up from a distance. Julia in particular, from the ages of 14-15, was shaping up to be a strong, willful woman, and had started to gain a reputation of sorts for her handywork around town. As his last act of kindness to the town, and of some of his own selfish curiosity, he offered to house the Bellatrix siblings for as long as they could keep him there. Alfric had previously stated that his time in town was coming to a close. He was needed elsewhere.

During the two and a half years Julia ended up staying with Alfric, he took incredible care of her and her sibling. They wanted for naught, though worked incredibly hard to maintain Alfric's respect. He made it very clear that while his heart was big and he cared for the Bellatrix children very much, he would tolerate no lazing about, no misbehaving, and no attitude. Under his roof, you follow his rules. And so, they did. Julie and Damien were tasked constatly with work both around the house and in town. It turns out Alfric was heavily involved in most of the infrastructure in town. While he did not participate in much of the design, placement, or engineering - there was always staff for that - he was responsible for nearly all of the funding. Due to this association, Julia and Damien soon became fairly knowledgable of the construction process, and got incredible workouts from it all while they were at it. He also had fingers in the town's shipping and mailing system. Delivering packages came to be Julia's favorite task: it tipped well, let her meet others and reconnect with previous foster homes, and helped her shape her body into an image of strength and speed at a relatively young age.

And when the siblings weren't working their asses off to help maintain their hometown, Alfric tended to their every need. He's an excellent cook, magnificent tailor, and remarkable black and silversmith. He is also a stunning storyteller. After long days of working hard and earning well, the Bellatrix siblings always returned home to a warm meal, a clean room, and a fantastic bedtime story. Alfric spared no details, painting breathtaking imagery of his adventures across numerous lands and times. He's defeated Lich, stuck down Gnoll encampments, thwarted deadly political agendas, and rescued numerous princes and princesses in distress. He's ridden wyverns, slain dragons, trained bulettes. His name, though not necessarily well-known, is memorable. The tales Alfric spins are gruesome, real, and visceral, each bearing an important message.

Julia listened intently to every tale, doing her best to absorb every word and take away the message that Alfric intended for her. While her younger brother often dismissed Alfric's tales as frightening or nonsense, they inspired Julia like little else. Her work ethic, already fueled by her naturally compassionate nature, evolved into one driven to hear another story. She simply could not get enough, and soon worked so quickly that she often returned home early, earning her private storytime sessions with Alfric. These were different than his usual tales of grandeur, touching on more heavy topics. It was here that Julia learned to think before she takes a life. Alfric remains remorseful of some of his actions to this day. He could see the spark in Julia's eyes, and advised her often to be mindful of the blood her blade may draw.

The cycle of work, eat, listen, and sleep, continued for nearly three years before Alfric decided he was ready to move on. Julia begged and pleaded him to take them with him. He refused, telling Julia that he knew her place was here, and that where he was going, he would never return, and neither would she, if she came. Leaving Julia and Damien both with a hand-written transcript of his final story, he left, leaving the home Julia and Damien had come to love empty and lifeless. Despondent, Julia was forced to return to their foster center. Now 18, and soon 19, she knew it would be incredibly difficult for her to find a permanent home, and at her age, it was assumed that she would begin to work for the foster system.

As time passed, Julia's displeasure with her life began to steadily swell. Though she had made a good name for herself and her brother, sure, she was incredibly disappointed and upset with the general public's disposition towards her race's nature, and grew exhausted of working in town. She wanted to do something, be someone, and live up to Alfric's expectations. Maybe, just maybe, if she could get her name into the world's mouths, her parents would learn to care for her, too. She knew it was spiteful to be upset with her parents, and yet, Julia remembers Deadshot and Cinere as barely anything but absent. As Julia's 19th birthday approached, she dabbled with blacksmithing and tailoring, utilizing what Alfric left behind in the house to refine her skills. She successfully made herself a patchwork set of leather armor and a single iron arm guard. She had two, at one point, but screwed up the initial design so badly it was unwearable. One will do just fine.

On the dawn of her 19th birthday, Julia was nowhere to be found. She left her brother a sweet, handwritten message, telling him not to worry too much, and to be good. She left most of her belongings behind, taking only what she needed. If anyone had been looking for her at the ungodly hours of the morning, they would have found her in Alfric's old dwellings, sharpening an old greatdword that hadn't seen blood in years. This blade, one of Alfric's favorites, would be her guide, her north star. A token of Alfric's kindness and the seed of adventure he planted within her. As the sun touched the rooftops of her hometown, Julia hitched a ride on an outgoing mail caravan, heading to god only knows where, and to start a life based solely on stories and legends.
